My kids love certain shows and they get "hooked" on watching the same movie over and over again. In general though, they will get a little bored with the same videos after a few months and I'll need to cycle in some fresh ones.

I had an idea and want to gauge the possibility with this forum.

Since upgrading to TivoHD, I've got an extra Series 2 laying around. The kids are fine with the quality from a Series 2. The problem is that you can't TTCB or record with an unsubbed S2.

So why not (1) upgrade the disk with as big as possible, then (2) sub the machine for a month and (3) record and TTCB as many videos as possible on the machine, then (4) unsub.

In 4 months, repeat steps 2-4.

It costs me $10 every few months. The kids know how to operate a TiVo, so its a better option than getting a different interface from some standalone media player.

Any comments?

Why not? Because every time you subscribe, you are committing to pay for at least 12 months of service.

Presumably you could do it for free with a trial membership on teh second sub. Tivo might shut your plan down for abuse though after a couple of times.

Naw, I wouldn't do that. That just wouldn't be ethical.

I was thinking that there was a by-the-month no-long-term-commitment plan. At least, there used to be, I think. I just went to the tivo.com web site, and today, all I see are plans with long term commitments.

So, my idea won't work.

Just really trying to find a way to legally and ethically use the old S2s.

Buy a used Tivo machine which has Free Lifetime Basic:D
Toshiba RS-TX20 or a Humax I believe. This would be the perfect solution! Maybe even find one with a broken DVD burner and pay even less:D

TiVo Basic on the DVD units doesn't include TTG/MRV.

Didn't you just learn that you can't do that? or were you not paying attention to the answers given when you asked about this in your own thread?
