Hi guys,
I've got a Humax Tivo 2 with a 360 hour drive on it, but it's time to upgrade to a HD drive.
Can the shows and the season pass data be transferred over to the new Tivo3 either physically, or through a network connection?
Also, they have a 96 Hour HD unit for about $900 on DigitalRecorders. Are there better deals to be had?
I'm so new to this stuff, so sorry if these are basic questions.
Thanks
Sarah

You can transfer only the recordings, only by network.
You are monetarily better off buying a stock capacity Tivo and upgrading it yourself.

Yes, I'll do it shipped to your door for $800 and I'll even include a backup 160GB drive. :)

What would it cost me to buy a tivo and upgrade it with a drive to handle 96 hours of HD? What size drive?

Definitely. Don't waste a dime on those ****s.

The cost of the Tivo unit plus about $140 for 750g WD hard drive from Newegg.com.

Which without even looking should be less than 300$ total. Shoot my 1TB Tivo HD cost a total of 870$ and it has a lifetime subscription!

Well first we have to know if you dont mint to void the warranty. There is an official method of adding space in which you have to buy a special Tivo external drive then there is the unsupported method where you buy a regular SATA hard drive and put it inside your system.

Technically, you do void the warranty, but realistically, if you replace the OEM drive, but keep it and put it back if necessary, is there any way for Tivo to tell or better yet, do they even care?
That hasn't been clear to me yet.
At any rate, if you're comfortable connecting a SATA cable to the motherboard of your computer, you're golden- a monkey could do the setup.
If that sounds like something you don't want to even think about doing, scratch together $250 or so for the Tivo-endorsed 500GB external eSATA drive.

They can tell but so far the unofficial stance is that they don't care. I think if it became a problem they could always fall back on the "voided warranty" spiel but so far most have been lucky.
