We had a bad lightning storm lastnight and our tivo's went out. So i try to reset them and it stops at 99% then starts over again and go's to a black screen. It will be 2 weeks before direct tv can come look at them. Any suggestions on a fix?

Does it ever boot to TiVo Central? If so, can you play a recorded program?

if i hit exit twice at the loading screen i can view my playlist and watch recorded programs.

The other question is - What will you do to prevent this from happening in the future?

Can you hook up one of the TiVos directly to the dish - bypassing the multiswitch - to see if your dish/multiswitch is damaged. I'd think the probability of both TiVos' tuners getting damaged is low.

Not sure was just bad luck and i think lightning struck my multiswitch.

I SERIOUSLY doubt that. In fact I'd wager money on it. If lightning struck your house it would be quite obvious.
I was hoping you would say "buy a real surge suppressor/UPS"
