View Full Version : What is wrong with my TiVo (Suggestions overriding SP's)

I am having a big problem with my TiVo that only seems to be getting worse, and I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.

It began a couple of weeks ago, with a couple of little things. For example, I have a Season Pass for the Rachel Ray daytime talk show. An episode did not record, and when I check it it says "Did not record because TiVo didn't have enough space". That was simply untrue, there were over 50 programs in my TiVo Suggestions folder, and many yellow-coded non-suggestions that it could have taken.

Then today, I had a very, very strange issue. I record both Oprah and Ellen at 4PM. Today, neither recorded. When checking my Recording History, I was told that a "member of my household" changed the Oprah season pass (not true, I live alone, unless some gremlin or my cat did it), but it was what Ellen said that really bothered me : "This program was not recorded because it conflicted with a higher priority Season Pass or other recording" and proceeds to tell me it skipped Ellen so it could record "The Cosby Show", which is NOT on my Season Pass list. It was a suggestion - and there it is, in my Suggestions folder.

Why on Earth would my TiVo skip a season pass recording to record a suggestion? I do not, and never have had, Cosby Show on my SP list, and I can't for the life of me figure this out. I'm used to trusting my TiVo, but these little things have been happening and now I feel like I have to micro-manage more than ever to ensure my programs get recorded.

Thank you for any advice.

Based on what you write, this does not sound right at all.
What are current settings on these season passes?
Does the future To_do_List look right?
Try restarting your TiVo. Then connect to the TiVo service.

BTW, what type of TiVo is it?

I have a Series 2 DT with an upgraded hard drive. Both the Oprah and Ellen season passes are set to "first run and repeats", and I believe Ellen is set to keep until I delete and Oprah is set on keep until space is needed (I'd have to double check that). I still can't explain the Rachel Ray thing from last week - I have not had a problem with that show since, but I don't get why my TiVo said there wasn't enough space when I had 50+ shows in my suggestions folder, plus lots of yellow tagged stuff as well.

I did restart my TiVo, and I also cleaned out my season passes (had over 70, down to about 50 now) and over time I have changed many of my season passes over to "keep until space is needed" because I know having too many "keep until I deletes" can foul things up. I checked the To-Do list and I had another issue with Leno/Letterman, but I seem to have been able to fix those and now they are recording. It's like my TiVo is suddenly not respecting some priorities.

What worries me the most is the Ellen thing - I wish we could take screen shots of our TiVo, because I just don't get how it can say "This program was not recorded because it conflicted with a higher priority Season Pass or other recording" and it clearly shows on the same screen that it was because of an episode of The Cosby Show, which shows up in my TiVo suggestions. That's what seems like some sort of bug to me - why my TiVo would not record something instead to pick up a suggestion.

I'd like to consider myself a decently advanced TiVo user - I use all the network features, TiVo To Go, am comfortable upgrading them myself, and I record massive amounts of shows with no problem - so if anyone has more advanced troubleshooting I can do I'm willing and able to do it. I have looked at this issue every way I can and just don't see how I could have done anything to cause it to record a suggestion over a SP. I came here today hoping it was some bug that will be fixed in an update or something, but so far it seems I'm the only one with this unique problem.

As I said, the To-Do list looks okay for right now, but I'll have to keep a real close eye on it. My next step, if it happens again, is to clear everything - which will be a huge undertaking with all my SP's and wishlists, but it would be worth it if I can keep this from happening. That's a huge step though - lol, so I'm resisting it while I can.

Thank you for your response!

Does Cosby have three (3) stars somewhere, or possibly an "auto-record" attached to it?

What's the maximum number of episodes of Rachel Ray to retain? If it's already recorded it's quota and you have them SUID, it may just be giving you the wrong reason it didn't record the next one.
