Hi,

After years of service, our tivos/satellite service suddenly stopped working. It happened to several systems at the same time so I'd have to guess it's something to do with the satellite or some connection. I don't believe it was weather related as it was clear blue skies when it started. I've gone to the roof and checked the satellite. All appears fine and all wires seem good.

From the TV/box side, i've restarted the Tivo just to make sure as well as run the signal strength tests. All are 0 signal.

I've called support but they were of no help and want to charge me $80-$90 just for the home visit.

Before I schedule anything, could anyone advise me on some steps to check or what I can do? Please let me know if you need any information. I've checked the official tivo forums and posted a thread there as well but figured this is a better community. :)

Thanks in advance!
KTC

Are these DirecTV TiVos?
Does moving them around change things?
Do other DirecTV receivers work fine?

Are these DirecTV TiVos?
-I'm not entirely sure the difference, but they should be DirecTV TiVos. They are all original units from DirecTV. I believe two are Hughes branded, one RCA, and one non-DVR box.

Does moving them around change things?
-Moving around as in tightening wires or physically moving and attaching it to a different TV/Sat cable? Tightening wires hasn't helped. All units suddenly just stopped working and haven't been functional for two days now. Boxes still work and I can view recorded shows and menus but not satellite signal.

Do other DirecTV receivers work fine?
-All DirecTV receivers do not receive a signal.

I realize this may mean it's not a TiVo issue per se, but any troubleshooting advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It doesn't sound TiVo related at all. If you use a multiswitch (like a cable splitter but for sat units), I'd take the input (cable direct from your dish) and hook it directly into one of your recievers (TiVo or stand-alone) and see if you get a signal. If it works then your multiswitch is hosed. If not I'd check you connections at the dish itself.

Check basic satellite troubleshooting tips on your sat provider's website for more details.

Thanks rocko. As I was replying to the other message, I realized it was probably not a TiVo issue. I just generally associate DirecTV and TiVo together - My mistake!

I will try to hook up a receiver directly instead of through the multiswitch when I get home tonight. Good idea!

Thanks so much

Thanks for the suggestion rocko! You were correct and i've isolated it to be the multiswitch. Now to find a replacement...
