I have a Tivo Series 3 upstairs and a Tivo HD downstairs. Both have been working without incident. Recently the Tivo HD does not show the Series 3 upstairs under the NOW PLAYING choice. I have transferred programming in both directions multiple times without errors.

I restarted the Tivo HD and the MRV choice came back, but withinh a few hours it was gone again.

Anyone else seen this happen? Is there some fix for this other than Reboot?

Does your router allow you to assign a static ip address to each TiVo? If so, try that.

My Series 3 has not been able to see my Series 2 and vice-versa for the past week. They both can see my TiVo desktop server so I am at a loss as to what is happening.

Had this happen a few times when I had my TiVoHD on a wireless connection. Disappeared completely when I switched over to wired. You didn't say if you were wired or wireless.

I would start with debugging your network connections. In my situation, the TiVoHD was losing its wireless connection (interference, crosstalk, who knows). It would switch over to a default IP address 169.xx.xx.xx (requested DHCP and couldn't reach server) and couldn't talk with the rest of the network. Changing the network settings or rebooting would force it to re-request the address and everything would be OK. The PC that was 5 feet away from it and also on wireless never had a problem.

Going with a fixed IP address instead of DHCP would address that as well, but I just switched over to wired and have had no problems since.

I am wired both upstairs and downstairs. I have run the Network connectivity check on both devices. Both work correctly.

The Tivo HD also has the WD eSATA extender.

The symptoms just repeated themselves in the last 15 minutes. No icon for the Series 3 and then 15 minutes later, it is back without doing a reboot.

In the past I have found that if the TIVO Server is on PAUSE, then MRV capabilites get fouled up. Set the Desktop Server to Active and the issues go away.

If I look at the network settings I see a valid ip address. If I can see that, will a fixed address be any better? I don't know networking at any detailed level. I'm just asking?

I had the same problem with my TiVoHD and my Series2.

I did two things to fix it:

1) Updated my router from a "b" to a "g".

2) Used the TiVo wireless adapter on both boxes.

Works like a charm.

The issue you've seen occurs with some routers. I don't know if the issue relates to expired DHCP leases or something else. But I do know that others were able to eliminate the issue by setting their router to assign the TiVos static (non-changing) addresses.

I will give this a try and report back on what happens. Thank you.

I assigned static IP adresses for both units and the problem persists. For a moment I could see the Tivo 3, but now it is gone again.

Based upon the symptoms, should I be trying to fix a problem with the TIVO3 or with the HD TIVO who cannot see the TIVO 3? TIVO 3 always can see HD TIVO.

For whatever it's worth, I have the same issue. I have a Series 3 and a Series 2 connected to my wireless network, and sometimes the 3 can see the 2, sometimes it can't. I don't transfer programs very often, so this "feature" doesn't kill me, but it would be better if it wasn't there.

I rebooted the router and now I see the TIVO 3 on the HD TIVO. If this continues to look solid, then the fixed IP change might have worked.

Not working again... This sucks.

Okay, It is still broken. I talked to a guy who used to work in the cable business and he thinks it could be a cable signal strength issue. Does anyone else think that cable signal strength could in any way effect an ethernet connection showing another network entity? I cannot mentally see the two connected at all. Thoughts?

No way are they related.

I have this problem. I have three TiVos.

1) A TiVoHD.
2) A Series 2 140-series with a USB-ethernet adapter
3) A Series 3 140-series with a TiVo wireless adapter.

2 and 3 are the very old S2 TiVos, circa 2002, with USB 1.1 ports, if that matters.

1 and 2 are sitting one on top of the other and are each connected by ethernet to a four port wireless ethernet bridge (to which my XBox 360 is also connected). The bridge is connected wirelessly to my router. 3 is, of course, directly connected wirelessly to my router via the TiVo adapter.

My router correctly reports all three TiVos (via their TSNs) as clients on the network. None of the TiVos ever have problems seeing the desktop TiVo servers, or connecting to the TiVo service or to Unbox (IOW, they are actively connected to the network).

1 and 2 see each other all the time. 3 almost never sees 1 or 2, and 1 never sees 3 (I rarely look at 2, so I don't really know if it sees 1 or 3 regularly). Sometimes I'll "change" the network settings on 3 (i.e., run through the network settings setup again, but use the same settings as before), and 3 will be able to see 1 and 2, but it only lasts a few minutes and then it's gone again.

This is a serious PITA, here. I hope Tivo is aware of it.
