View Full Version : TiVo Series 3 "black channels" on one cable card...

So I seem to have a problem similar to others I have read. Suddenly the other day I started having blacked out channels on one of the CCs (both are S-cards). The missing channels are all over the place (for example, I get 6 and 7 but not 3,5,8,10,12, etc; this continues up into the premium channels) and restarts have NO effect.

I had Cox (Phoenix) out last week and they replaced CC1 and there was NO change, and when I check the diagnostics when on a "black" channel the cablecard says it is tuner but the TUNER (TiVo, I assume) is NOT.

I guess it is a TiVo issue; has anyone had the same issue in the same way, where the missing channels are all over the dial and restarts have no effect?

Thanks,

Wayne

Could be ADS (analog digital simulcast). Are all the channels missing in digital?

Tune the 'good' card to a missing channel. Go to Settings->cable cards->diagnostics. Does the 'good' cablecard show the missing channel as QAM or analog? If it's QAM, and that's true for all the missing channels seems the card isn't mapped right (which would be unusual for just one card) or something is wrong on the head end. I had an extremely similar experience and they had to 'balance' my cards (but it affected both).

Edit: originally they swapped the cards for M-cards which resolved the issue (very temporarily).

I've seen something similar on my S3 when one card was paired properly and the other card was not paired properly. I could get all the channels on card 1 but nothing above ch26 on card 2.

All channels that I can tune (all with one CC and some with the other) show as being QAM256. When I put the "bad" CC on a channel it can't tune, it oscillates between QAM64 and QAM256.

When I initially got this problem last week they went ahead and hit both cards to no effect. For some reason I still think this is TiVo-related; I changed one variable (the bad CC) and the behavior did not change.

Thanks though! Any other ideas appreciated!

So changing cable cards had no effect; I called TiVo and it seems as though the SLOT may have gone bad. Fortunately, I have had the S3 for under a year so they sent me a new one and it works fine.

And I ended up with an extra free remote!
