OK, everything seems normal during bootup until the THX screen and then video output dies completely. Just goes blank. The Tivo itself seems to be working fine. I can scroll through the channels and the audio output works and the remote keys do what is expected (as well as can be determined with no video). First discovered while the S3 was working fine and then just went blank.

The problem has been isolated to the S3. There has been no inkling of any problem in the last year and a half and no changes in the system setup and environment. There has been no power outages or lightning and the unit sits behind a series mode surge suppressor and a UPS. I am using HDMI and verified the cable is good.

I am really baffled by this because I see the Tivo guy during the first part of the boot up than, poof, nothing. The manual had no troubleshooting suggestions for this scenario. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm up to trying most anything. :(

Is it possible you've bumped the format button and set the unit to a resolution your TV does not support? For example, if I set mine to 720p fixed - I'd see the exact same problem, as it's hooked up to a TV that only accepts 1080i.

Try cycling through other output resolutions...

Yea connect the tivo to the tv via composite connection. This will allow you to see everything again and then go to the video settings to see what resolution is being used.

Or just use the Format button on the front of the S3. :)
