We've seen the postings about the LA HDs moving off MPEG2. Has DTV announced when they're doing the same for NY HD locals and other cities? I'd like to know how much time I have left with my HR10-250!

No one knows. No other announcements have been made. It is all speculation. My "speculation" is not until at least 2009 when the rest of the MPEG2 HD channels will probably be moved (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=6024991#post6024991) as announced by DirecTV from one of their divisions..

There are no other cities except LA and NY in MPEG-2 HD

When the HR10 is no longer useful for MPEG2, I'll continue to use mine for SD as long as it works. :)

Since DTV has no accurate way of predicting what the call volume will be when they shut off LA, they probably have no model yet for NYC. This is somewhat uncharted territory. If the LA conversion goes smoothly, they will probably move quickly to tackle NYC next. Put another way, if the NYC conversion comes on the heels of LA, that would be an indicator that LA went smoothly, and that the timetable for all MPEG2 could be stepped up. Logically, LA and NYC RSN's would be likely next, followed by remaining RSNs in order of increasing size.

We've just been told unofficially "no sooner then 2009" and the "unoffically" has been pretty accurate up till now. Kind of like when the news reports say "unnamed government sources have said .........".
