Last week, I had DirecTV at my old house. My setup was a 5LNB dish, 2 HR10-250's and an HR20. I switched to FIOS at my new house with TiVo HD, but brought DirecTV in for MLB,Sunday Ticket. I had them do (3) combos. The HR20 worked without a problem. However, both HR10-250's only saw one satellite. Odd because they worked perfectly last week. The installer even brought in an HR21 to show me that both satellites were working.

After a brawl with Directv, they offered to send me (2) refurbed HR21's for free if I signed for the protection plan. Since our main viewing is on FIOS, this works out perfectly. Since we have TiVo HD, it would be impossible to use TiVo for both services anyway considering the remote controls both.

Q: Is it possible that the new dish/multi-switch is the cause of the issue? I'd like to resell my old HR10-250's, but obviously do not want to sell defective equipment.

Are the HR21's faster than the HR20's? Channel switching on the HR20 was unbearable.

Thanks as always for your input.

Since we have TiVo HD, it would be impossible to use TiVo for both services anyway considering the remote controls both. There are 7 or 8 different remote addresses so you can use that many different DVR's that run Tivo software. There are guys here with that many running and using one universal remote to control them all.

What "one satellite" does your HR10-250 see? It should see 3 satellites ... 101, 110 and 119-deg W. You might need to repeat "Satellite Guided Setup" and specifiy that it's connected to a "3-LNB Oval Dish".

Your HR20 should actually be seeing 5 satellites .... 99, 101, 103, 110 and 119-deg W. Check its Signal Menu and post back your readings for each satellite's transponders if you're not sure that it's seeing all of the signals it should.

Finally, what brand/model multiswitch do you have? How is it connected to the satellite dish?

Sorry, my mistake. The issue is with Satellite Input 1 and 2. For some reason, it won't pick up the SAT 2 input. The HR21 picked up both. This happened with 2 TiVo's. Strikes me as very odd, since they both worked a week ago with a different dish/multi-switch.

For some reason, it won't pick up the SAT 2 input.
...This happened to one of my HR10's a few weeks ago after a power outage. I ran Guided Setup and set only one sat input connected and now have to use it with only one tuner active. I assumed the 2nd tuner went bad. My other HR10's all still have both tuners working with 5LNB dish and WB616 multiswitch.

"Tuner issues" usually can be resolved.

1 check system info and make sure both tuners are active.
2. Switch cables going to inputs and check tuner strength.
3 If tuner strength changes with cable swap then usually I have to reboot my multiswitch and that does it.
4. If tuner switch does not vary with with cable input swap then I do a cold reboot and rerun guided setup again.
5. If that fails, then I open the case and check all connections, and make sure that the cables are firmly connected by a quality cable and connector.
6. Lastly, I will check the drive using the manufacturer's software and then reimage the drive and rerun guided setup and if all else fails I will change out the power supply.

So far I have only gotten to step six 1-2 out of 20-30 such instances of "Tuner failure" and I have not failed to resurrect an HR10.

Hope this helps,

You might need to repeat the "Guided Satellite Setup" process to tell your Tivo that both satellite inputs are connected.
