locking quotes possible? Or change in rules?

I absolutely HATE when people change each others quotes (even with their silly note that they did it). Is there a mechanism to lock people's quotes so it's just their original?

I'm guessing there is not so would you consider a rule change to forbid the practice so we don't attribute a misquote to someone else? I think it's disrespectful to change someone else's post in this manner (whether you are friends or not). Fine if you want to criticize it but dont change it

locking a quote would mean that it wouldn't be possible to only include the relevent portion of the quote in the reply. That in my opinion would be a much bigger annoyance than the one you describe.
