Does anyone have a copy of the Tivo Desktop 1.3 .exe file? I've looked all over for it and it's no longer at the following address:
http://www.tivo.com/desktop/TiVoDesktop1-3.exe
Tivo Desktop 1.3 is the only version (that I'm aware of) that works with Windows 98.

Windows 98? Never mind, I'm not even gonna ask.
You might try pyTivo -- it should run in that environment, but I haven't tested it.

Do you mean 2.3?

I don't know if it 98 compatible or not.

It seems that program is only good for streaming content, unless I'm reading the description incorrectly.

I've tried all of those versions. None of them work with Windows 98.

TiVoToGo does not work with Windows 98 period! TiVo Desktop 1.3 only had the ability to stream music and photos. TiVoToGo support wasn't added until 2.0, which requires Win2K or better. So if your goal is to use TiVoToGo then your only option is to use an XP machine with DirectShow Dump to decode the files to standard .mpg files, then put those onto the Win98 machine.

Are you trying to upload videos onto your Tivo, or pull them off?
I would think TivoPlayList (http://bellsouthpwp.net/d/c/dcahoe/tivo/index.htm)would be able to pull them off. It is written in VB6, so may be Win98 friendly.
pyTivo may work for uploading them to your Tivo.
As far as playing the video on a 98 machine once transferred I don't know. You could try TivoDecode (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/archive/index.php/t-329879.html) (command line version) to free them to mpeg first. Don't know if a .NET app like DirectShowDump (requires .NET 1.1) or TivoDecode GUI (http://www.gmonweb.com/portal/CodingFun/Downloads/tabid/54/Default.aspx)(requires .NET 2.0 or better) would be very 98 friendly. But never tried.

Basically, I need my PC and Tivo to be able to recognize each other.
ETA: Thank you!! Believe me, I searched Google and Yahoo forever and came up with the same old link to tivo.com. The file name is slightly different on your site.

I basically need Tivo Desktop 1.3 so that my computer and Tivo will recognize each other. That's the main thing I'm interested in.
Well that will only help with music and photos, not downloading/uploading video (aka Tivo2Go/TivoComeBack).
My Tivo is also a DVD Recorder, so getting files off of it isn't a problem. However, I would like to be able to transfer files from my PC to the Tivo.
Tivo Desktop 1.3 will not transfer files to your Tivo. I believe you need at least TD 2.3 for that.
I've just downloaded and tried to figure out pyTivo and it's a huge hassle. It's not user-friendly at all and I have no clue about python and all the settings the program requires. There have got to be some people out there that have Tivo Desktop 1.3, so I hope one of them will see this post and be able to help.
There is a windows installer version of pyTivo (http://pytivo.krkeegan.com/viewtopic.php?t=41&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=)out there that is pretty simple to setup (on XP at least).

I already had a program that would transfer the files, if only I could have gotten the Tivo and PC to recognize each other. Thank you for all your time, though.

Ok... You can't leave us hanging with that. :)
What program did you have? It takes more than having your Tivo and PC "recognizing" each other to enable the TivoComback feature. The program has to support it. What does recognize each other even really mean?

As I said before TiVoToGo, and the subset TiVoToComeBack, were not added to TiVo Desktop until version 2.0. Prior to that TiVo Desktop's only purpose was to do music and photos.
I'm curious as to why you need this to run on Windows 98? If you're still actually using the 10 year old OS on your main PC then you seriously should consider an upgrade. (XP Home is only about $80) If you're trying to use an old PC as a server of some sort you should look at Linux. There are several free TiVo Server packages that work on Linux for this purpose.

It seems [pyTivo] is only good for streaming content, unless I'm reading the description incorrectly. It's not clear to me what you mean. pyTivo will do everything that TiVo Desktop does (and I mean the latest, registered version of TD), except pull videos from your TiVo to your PC. For that, I use the web server method. (There's a web server built in to your TiVo, so you can download videos from an ordinary browser.)
Edit: And yeah, use tivodecode to decrypt the files you download via the web browser.
