Finalizing transition from 8 years of D*TiVo to FIOS. Have three TiVo's - one S2(DT), one S3 and one HD.

My problem. Each of the three units show the other two on the Now Playing list for MRV.

On either the S3 or HD, when I choose the S2 for MRV transfer, I get a message that says "There are no recordings on this unit" even though there are many SD recordings on the S2.

From the S2, I see the S3 and HD on Now Playing, and when I select either unit for an MRV transfer, the full list of recordings actually do appear, but with a large red marker on each recording indicating that they cannot be transferred.

Is this because of protection on HD content? I don't have any SD recordings on either of the HD-capable TiVo's.

I'm more concerned about the inability of the HD units to see recordings on the S2. I have a DVD-R recorder attached to the S3 and HD for archiving shows and want to be able to transfer recordings from the S2 for archiving.

Any ideas?

Is transfers enabled on tivo.com for the S2? If not, enable transfers.

Try a restart of all equipment.

Transfers and Video Downloads are enabled on all three units. Will try a restart later today.

Thanks. I'll let you know if it helps.

Also, make sure the MAK is the same for all 3 units.

I believe it is but I'll check on it. Thanks.

All TiVo’s must have the latest software.
All TiVo’s must be on the same billing account (same MAK).
All TiVo’s must be on the same subnet on your network.
All TiVo’s must have transfer enable on TiVo.com.

It might help if you gave us some networking information.
Do you use any hubs, switches or additional routers, bridges or access points?
Do you have multiple networks?
How are the TiVo’s connected to the network (wired or wireless)?
What make/model router are you using?
Maybe there is an IP conflict. Are the IP’s of each TiVo unique?

Software - check
Same MAK - check
Same subnet - 'Network Status' reflects same Subnet Mask
Transfer enabled - check

One network. All TiVos hardwired:
S3 connected directly to FIOS ActionTec Router
S2 & HD both connected through a LinkSys 4-port switch to Router
One hardwired Desktop PC w Vista Home Premium OS
Two wireless laptops - one XP, one Vista Home Premium

HD & S3 able to see all programming on each other despite having different paths to router.

Both can "see" S2 as a device, but neither can access the recordings. Get a message that "there are no recordings" when trying to access S2 from 'Now Playing' menu of either S3 or HD.

S2 can see all of the recordings on the S3 and HD, but cannot transfer because they are all HD recordings.

Further info:

Have not been able to successfully install TiVo Desktop on my new Vista-based computers. Don't believe this is relevant, but just another data point.

Able to successfully schedule online recordings.

Should I be able to see the DVRs on my PC Network Map? Since I got the Vista-based machines, the DVRs don't show up on the Network Map.

Appreciate any ideas you can offer to open the channel between the S3/HD and the S2.

You can't transfer HD content to the S2, even to view in SD.

Don't know why it isn't working the other way.

Try typing "regsvr32 vbscript.dll" from Run window (Windows Key-R) before installing.

You’ve got a good handle on everything. I thought there may be an IP conflict. I assume you only have one DHCP server and it’s on the router. If all of your devices are getting dynamic IP addresses from the router’s DHCP server you should be alright. If you assign any static IP addresses make sure they are on the same subnet, are unique, and are outside the range of the DHCP server. The problem seems to be the S2 TiVo, so check the S2’s IP address and make sure it’s unique. One of your computers may be using the same IP address.

Reboot the S2.

Strange problem. Sorry I’m not much help. Post the solution when you find one.

True, but he ought to be able to see the Now Playing list. HD content will just have the red "no transfer" symbol beside it.

Is your wireless access the FIOS ActionTec Router? If there's a different access point other than the FIOS ActionTec Router there may be multiple DHCP servers causing IP conflicts.

Try connecting to your S2 from your PC. Even though you don't have TiVoDesktop loaded, you can still just connect to https://<<your S2 ip address>>. Userid = tivo, password = your MAK

See if you can see the now playing list that way. That could at least tell you if your S2 is sending out the right data.

Most of the Linksys 4-port switches are actually a router plus switch combination. You will need to turn off the DHCP server or put it in bridge mode if you have one of those router/switch combos.

Ok every body take a step back. There is a known problem ever since the Version 9.1 upgrade. Tivo's on a network lose sight of each others recordings. I have 5 hardwire networked Tivos and they have all randomly gotten this problem (ie"there no no recordings on this dvr") The fix is to reboot the Tivo that cannot be seen. Mine do it every 4 or 5 days and I have to go around restarting each one.

Tech support told me to turn off DHCP and manually assign all my IP addresses but from my experience and a whole lot of other people this has had no impact on the problem.

See the "Tivo Coffee House" 9.1 bugs thread and see if this doesn't apply to you.

Many thanks to all. After performing several of the suggested checks and looking at various fixes, I restarted the S2 and the recordings are now viewable on my S3 and HD. In fact, I transfered a show late last night and am archiving it to DVD from my S3 as we speak.

Again, my sincere thanks. This forum has never failed to help me when problems have arisen.

My next challenge will be to get TiVo Desktop 2.5.1 installed on my Vista OS HP desktop computer. I will try the regvbs script suggestion. I believe they also suggest that on the official TiVo.com site as a possible fix.
