View Full Version : What are those grey areas in guide?

I recently noticed on my HR-20 the grey areas where the station identifiers are. Obviously, these appear to be channels I don't receive. However, that is not completely true. For example it shows me receiving Showtime HD (I have HDTV) but not the comprable Showtime non-HD channel, it is greyed out. I do have Starz and HBO but not any Showtime package. I have noticed this on a few other channels.
Is there something more than I realize going on?

Which guide are you looking at? All channels or one of the others?

They are channels that you do not receive based on your programming package.
The feature is based on the Channels I Get functionality, which is still being worked on and is not complete at this time.

I set up my own Favorites list to have the channels I receive, but noticed the same thing as the OP when I hooked up my dad's HR21 this past Monday. Would be awesome if they were also greyed out in the Favorites selection pages too; I guess I could check when Fairly Odd Parents is done or I get motivated enough to get off the couch....

Yeah, I guess we should expect that - the dvr has only been out for a year and a half now - we don't want to rush them :D

Well if you want to be even more synicall.....
The CIG feature has been disabled for almost two years...
It is the same data stream to all their current receivers:
D10/11/12
H20/21
R15/16
HR20/21
So it is not an issue with the DVR, but on how the package tiers work in the data stream... and how they are applied and mapped to the guide/channel data in all those systems.

Thanks for proving the axiom that sarcasm is the lowest form of discourse.
You say that as if this platform performs at a version 1.0 level, while we all know quite the opposite is true. The real facts are that while all PVRs are works in progress, this particular platform has had the most significant improvements in that year and a half by far than any other PVR ever in history.
The venerable Tivo platform has been out for 10 years, and it is still missing a lot of the features newly-available on the HR2x. 6.x for the HR10 has been out for a year and a half as well, and it still is plagued with spontaneous reboots and audio dropouts, something I've yet to experience on a HR20. Wouldn't want to rush those boys either.

Tyrone, in a lighter note, be careful what you say about the HR20. I was finally starting to feel comfortable with mine, enjoying all the extra HD, and then unusual happenings began occurring.
The latest occured just last night on a recorded program; the first 5 minutes said it could not find the channel and then it found the channel and recorded the rest. My HR10 had no such problem recording the same program.
Thanks for proving the axiom that sarcasm is the lowest form of discourse.
Oh? Actually I think it's more preferable then arrogance and holier-than-thou style which you seem comfortable with.

Yeah - it appears to me that all of these significant improvements are in fact just getting their dvr to the point where it can function sort of like they advertised 2 years ago. So I would agree with you 1.0 is right - it's finally ready for market:p

When logic fails, compare it to the DirecTivos - which has been hampered by Direct, for how many years now? So, tell me again - other than the mpeg4, what exactly does the HR2x have that my Tivo HD doesn't have?
So yeah all in all, I can see why you're quite ecstatic - you've got a 1.0 box that seems to work most of the time for most of the people, with a user interface that is considered secondary by Tivo users, with functions that have been available on Tivos for several years now. All of that and you're only locked in for 2 years.:p:p

Got a mouse in your pocket? Perhaps it owns an HR20. Sheesh dude, you sure spend a lot of time bitching about a product you don't even own. Take a look back at your posting history. It's quite pathetic, actually.
Do you ever have anything useful to say?

We're all painfully aware of what you prefer. No one can ever post an innocent neutral opinion that might differ even slightly from yours without being hammered relentlessly by what you prefer.
(And BTW, the word is "than")
If by that (arrogance/holier-than-RS4) you mean that you suspect that most (if not all) of the other contributors to this forum accept without question that they might be smarter than you, more relevant than you, and might even be morally superior to you, you just might be on to something (If you could only access my PMs). Can you blame them?
You might want to also reconsider bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Tyrone, in a lighter note, be careful what you say about the HR20... Have I been careless? What I have said about the HR20 in this forum usually reflects what the general experiences of most owners (lessees) has been, and what I said in this thread is that I have not seen either of the two significant problems I have seen on my DTivos (which also reflect many recent posts by others) on my HR20. Furthermore, I have yet to see any similar pattern of reports of spontaneous reboots or audio dropouts regarding the HR2x platform, problems which then appear to be Tivo-specific problems. So I am only relating what I know to be the truth.
Absolutely no disrespect meant, and I both believe your experience and feel your pain over it, but since you have done quite the same thing as me (report what you have seen on your HR20) does that imply a need for you to be careful about what you say as well?
With some of the idiot responses we have seen here recently, maybe by that you mean "be careful" because no matter what we post some internet slime will try to lamely undermine it.

he's inferring that if you say something it will make something else happen and that you have power over the machine. Thats how i took it
