View Full Version : Desktop 2.5.1 install failure IS an option

I am at wits end with trying to install Desktop 2.5 on Xp (SP2).

The first time installed it, I tried to install it on my "E:" drive and it gave a "paramater" error.

So after numerous uninstalls using/doing:
1. Add/Remove program
2. TiVo's Desktop cleaner
3. The command: regsvr32 vbscript.dll
4. Cleaning any tivo reference in the registry
5. Restarting after completing the above

Now, the weird thing is that if I create a new user and install it under that user it installs correctly and works great! BUT if I switch users (back to myself, the original user for the first install) it gives me the parameter error message again.

Any ideas? I just don't know...

I believe the solution is in some obscure registry key.
Do a registry search (find), starting at HKEY Current User, for the data , "E:\\" (without the quotes.) If you find the one with the word "TiVo" in it, change the "E:\\" to "E:\"

When do I do the modification?

After I remove Desktop with Add/Remove, Desktop Cleaner, etc. ?

or when Desktop is fully installed?

Thanks again for the suggestion.

First, I'd see if the registry value exists.
If not, what I mentioned won't help.
If so and you already have TiVO Desktop installed, make the change and restart.
Or, if so and you have Tivo Desktop completely uninstalled, you may also want to remove this TiVo related data from the current user registry before reinstalling.
