View Full Version : My HR20-700 is acting stranger every day...

The more I use the HR20-700, the more I appreciate my HR10-250 (still using 3.5)

As I have said before, I only use the HR20 when I have to. ie. watch bigten channel, Scifi in HD.

Recently, my refurbished HR20 has;
1. frozen 3 times and didnt record a show (unresponsive to the remote requiring a reset),
2. the Video was frozen with the audio working,
3. the % available went to 95% from 49% (was sure I lost all my shows, reset fixed it).

I am afraid to ask for another one since these issues seem somewhat random and since this is my 4th refurbished (others failed completely) HR20 since August and remember I dont use it often. Anything I record on the HR20, I also record on the HR10 for good reason.

I am anxiously waiting for the next generation of DVRs.

All well known issues with the HR20. I'm on my 4th since Sept. All this and I'm locked in a 2 year contract. :down: Never again.

I know the HR20s can now be discussed here, but this situation should really be discussed on the HR20 forum at DBSTalk. A lot more experience there. :)

It sure sounds like you guys have some other problem if you have gone through that many units.

Note that this is exactly the same response that has been given to Tivo users who said they have gone through x number of units in a short time.

I'm about to trade my HR10 for an HR2*. I sure hope I get an HR21, it has been very stable. My first HR20 died after 2 months and experienced the problems the OP had.

FYI, my HR20-100s has given me no problems since its installation 10/4/07. Maybe the 100 is better than the 700.

I've only had both of my HR20-100's since ~Nov 7, 2007, but have never had a serious problem when running the national release software.

Of course, I never had the scale of issues on my 3 HR10s or 3 HDVR2s that get reported here, so I either lead a charmed life or lots of folks have bad electronic gizmo karma.

A trip to DBSTalk sounds like just what the dr ordered.

FYI, my HR20-100s has given me no problems since its installation 10/4/07. Maybe the 100 is better than the 700.

I've had HR20-100 since 10/1/07 with no problems, just networked it yesterday, went 762 immediately. Networked my HR20-700 the day before and no issues. DTV sending a replacement HR20-100 no questions asked.

I have had 2 HR-20 for over a year, this past week one of the HR-20's started doing similar things, I havent missed any recordings, but picture frozen with audio running, etc. My wife called in to complain (we have the PP), they sent us a brand new HR20-100S. Not a refurb. I was really surprised.
