Will the HR10-250 work as a receiver for FTA satellites, as well as pick up local TV channels without a subscription from D*?
I have a feeling that I will be unloading 3-4 HR10-250's as I am switching to cable......

It needs 2 things, an authorization stream from the 101/110/119 Ku sats, and DVR service, the latter nearly impossible to get without a subscription to a programming pkg.
If you are referring to the Ka sats, it does not know about them as it is not in the OS. Theoretically, you can convert Ka freqs to L-band and pump them into a HR10, but it would still not know what to do with them (no access card would allow them to pass) as it is expecting to see metadata from 101/110/119 regarding the channel structure there.

No. You need an FTA satellite receiver like the Mercury II to get signals from the FTA sats like AMC 4 or Galaxy 25.

Thank you both for setting me straight. Having switched to cable (and with a cable HD Tivo on order) I was hoping for some use from the HR10-250's. I guess I'll just sell them.
