After about three months and no less than visits from six different techs, I finally got two cable cards that both appeared to work. It worked well for a couple of days and I felt confident enough to return my cable box to Comcast.
Then, I lost some channels and noted that once again Cablecard #2 was under the Conditional Access screen showing Auth: NOT_SUBSRIBED and an CA enable: NOT POSSIBLE. The problem went away in the afternoon. A tech came by and said he had fixed the problem. He noticed that on one of their last computer screens someone had failed to remove one of the references to Time Warner. Comcast took over our area almost two years ago from Time Warner. He said it should be stable from now on.
Instability still continues. This morning I, again, am missing most of the 400 series channels and Cablecard #2 says the same again. However, if I go into Test Channels for Cablecard #1 and enter one of the 400 channels it will come up and the problem seems to go away. Cablecard #2 still says the same but it will probably read O.K. by this afternoon. Then, the same cycle will likely occur again tomorrow.
I have had some problems with this TiVo box. Occassionally, I have gotten the blackback ground on the menu screens which prevent any program, live or recorded from playing. I can only get it to go away by restarting TiVo. Last week the unit froze up in pause mode. If you would switch channels, the picture would come up and then freeze. Again, the only way I could get it to go away was to restart TiVo. I haven't had another occurrence of this since.
So, my questions are: Is it a Comcast/cablecard problem? Is it a TiVo problem or a combination of both?
