Desktop Plus fails transfers from PC to Tivo more often than not. (Tivo to PC is more reliable)

Tivo and Fios router are connected via ethernet. Router is set for automatic port selection.

Can some tell what ports need to be opened for
Desktop Plus-
TivoNet-

And...could this be my problem?
Thank you

I don't think this is your problem. Ports, are basically all open by default (on the private side) going out to the internet, they are closed by default (on the public side) coming into your router from the internet.

For example I can brows to a web site using port 80 which uses HTTP protocol or I could FTP which uses port 21 with no problem.

Thats one of the nice perks about a router, it prevents hackers from using open ports to connect to your PC and hack your butt because everything is closed coming in, open going out.

However, if I set up a FTP server on my PC and used the same default port 21 I would need to open that port for incoming traffic on the router.

Now your issue is all on the private side and don't involve the internet which goes to make me think your wireless adapter might be getting interrupted by something else using the same frequency, say a 2.4Ghz cordless phone.

Do you have any cordless phones in the house, if not maybe your neighbors? That could be disrupting your connection from the wireless adapter on the Tivo to your PC.

Nothing in my house is on a near frequency and nothing in the neighborhood is strong enough and....

OK, your hard wired in not wireless; I missed that part sorry.

Makes me think its the network adapter in your PC

Before I'd go buying new hardware have you tried reinstalling the drivers or looking to see if newer drivers are available for your adapter in the PC?

Also, have you noticed drops in your connection to the internet at all?

Another possibility, issue could be in the router itself maybe a short in the ellectrical or being unpluged.

Thank you for the reply....Yeah, I figured it would be worth the trouble to pull a cable.

I'll investigate that thank you.

Well, yes. I use T-Mobile @home which is T-Mobile using VOIP technology to give me cell service in my house using a wi-fi enabled phone. When I am on the router the phone shows UMA access. This regularly drops out and my phone reverst to EDGE technology. Is this related to the "Network Adapter" suggestion or is it something else?

Normally I'd say yea its related due to it being wireless and assuming your TIVO had a wireless adapter however in your case you are using a CAT5 network cable directly from the router to the TIVO and from the router to your PC so in your case its not related. Now if you were connecting wirelessly I'd say the frequency of your Wi-Fi phone is interfering with your or is on the same frequency as your router therefore causing your drops.

As for your phone and UMA/EDGE technology I am unfamilar with it so don't know.
