Hello all... I work for my Texas based "high speed internet, local & long distance phone and digital cable" service provider.

I'll be taking my THD into work next week so all the other guys (and I) can have some training on setting up CCs.

I have access to both SA and Moto CCs... I (personally) feel the SA digi boxes run circles around the Moto digi boxes. So, I was wondering, which card seems to "work" best with the THD... Scientific Atlanta or Motorola.

Motorola. But I'd be surprised if you can really choose.

As I stated above... I am employed by my cable provider. All I have to do is ask the warehouse if they have both in stock. If they have both I just ask for which ever card I want. http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/6905/winkfistog7.gif

The reason he said that is because typically the brand of cablecard is tied to the brand of headend equipment used by the cable company.

Unfortunately, the system used on the plant here is set up to use both. That's why I said I have access to both. I was curious which card people have had better results with because (from what i have seen) the Moto digi boxes don't always work properly compared to the SA digi boxes.

There seems to be some concensus that the Mot CCs work a little better, but there have been problems with both. There seems to be a reported failure rate that I would think would be hard for the manufacturers to justify in both cards.

I agree that Motorola seems to be the way to go.

When I was talking to Tivo Tech support last week, they said they have been having problems with SA Cards

Just for the record, I have a multistream SA card. The install was a breeze and I've had no problems.

Ditto -- SA M Card, easy install, no problems.

UPDATE:
I now have my CABLE CARD installed and working properly. I went with the Motorola M-Card. The install went easy enough. I made sure to take my cable modem with me to work so the TiVo could have the connection to update the channel guide. The only problem i can find is that Grande recently added 4 more HD channels that the TiVo is not picking up. Anybody know who one might contact in regards to getting new channels added to the TiVo listing?

I suppose I'll move the SA DVR out of the living room and into my son's computer room (converted garage).

What did the motorola M-Card physically look like? I'm with Time Warner Cable here in south texas and they are telling me that the card they installed is an M-card but my TiVoHD is only seeing it as an S-card. I'm having to have a 3rd truck rollout later today (3:30pm) with the tech bring more cable cards to try. The card in my TiVoHD currently says it is connected but all other fields on the conditional access screen are all unknown or 0. I am however, able to tune in all the non-encrpyted channels on my digital cable line up.

This picture is from last week or something. I had a work order (install) that stated they needed a CC. Seems the CSR had entered that by mistake or something. So I brought them home and dreamed of using them before I had an actual upgrade scheduled for myself.

I had to call Tivo directly who patched me to some department (don't remember which) and had to fax in a channel lineup. Keep in mind this was about 5 years ago though. Might be a place to start...

There's a web form:

Is the TiVo not picking up the new channels when you explicitly tune to them or they are simply not listed in the guide. If the former, it sounds like the channel map loaded into the CCs by the cable company are in error, and submitting a line up change to TiVo will do nothing.
