Hi,
I did a search on this and got so very many threads and posts that I decided to post a new question in the hopes that someone could point out an actual thread for me
I have Tivo 2DT and I'm concerend the drive is going, so while its still ok I'd like to make a backup of it with all my settings.
please kindly, someone point me in the right direction. Thanks so much.

You can start by looking in the forum that's full of the information

Hi,
That is the upgrade forum, many, many threads on upgrading. I just want to backup my harddrive for safe keeping. Is that the same thing?
I need a newbie/dummie guide for backing up.
Also, a lot of the searches I did go back years and hopefully things have gotten easier since then.
Thanks for your swift reply.
If anyone has a direct link to a thread rather than a whole forum I'd appreciate it.

The two share some things in common, particularly removal and reinstallation of the hard drive and (for those who want to format their own drives) a way to transfer the software from the original to a new blank drive.
Note that if the drive is going south, it may be best to try to salvage whatever programs you want to save by transferring them to your PC (assuming your TiVo is networked) and getting a clean drive image for your new hard drive. You can then transfer the programs back to the TiVo. Yes you will have to recreate your settings, but unless you have a huge wishlist/season pass it's better than possibly copying a drive image full of corrupted data. It's one thing if it's the programs themselves, but another if it's the operating system.

But based on your previous questions, you may want to consider purchasing a preformatted drive from this forum's store (http://store.tivocommunity.com/)or Weaknees. ;)
