View Full Version : First Tuner 2, now my remote?

Ok, for months now I have been dealing with the Tuner 2 problem. I have stopped using the S-Video and I have switched the cables at the back of the unit, which I should mention is a HDVR2. Neither of these solutions improved my pixellation issues, and in fact they continue to get worse. Now I am even getting pixellation on locals where before it was just on the 200+ channels.

A few days ago, now my remote developed issues. The TV power and volume buttons work fine, but the channel, DTV, Live TV, and ff and rew buttons hardly work at all. It seems that getting closer to the tuner helps, but doesn't get rid of the non-responsiveness alltogether. We did change the batteries with brand new ones and that did not help.

I'm wondering if all of this points to a degrading/dying HDVR2? Could it be that my remote is going bad, even though the TV Power and Volume buttons control my TV just fine? Is this something that CCS could fix for me? I've been tossing around sending my unit to CCS just for the Tuner 2 issues, but have hesitated because it's the only DVR I have and I'll miss my shows. But, it's getting so bad, that I don't think I have a choice now.

Opinions?

Since the remote is more responsive the closer you get to the unit, I'd suggest that you have an IR interference problem. Check for other remotes that may have a stuck button. Compact fluorescent lighting is also a culprit.

Consider a new remote

cheaper than having it repaired
CCS is a good place to have your HDVR2 fixed

Ok, I need some more advice - my remote is still hardly working. I took the previous advice and removed batteries from all of my other remotes and that didn't work. I do use the compact flourescent bulbs in my living room lights, so I turn off all of my lights from time to time and don't get any improvement. My remote just doesn't respond most of the time. Sometimes getting closer helps, but sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it seems to work 'ok', but other times it is not working at all. But, the TV power, Volume and TV Input buttons work all of the time.

I bought a brand new remote and I'm still have the same problems.

Is it possible the IR port on my HDVR2 is going bad? I have no doubt that I have other issues with the unit - specifically issues with multiple outputs being used and Sat2 interference. CCS implied solder had come loose or corroded and I needed to have it fixed.

I just don't know what else to do. It makes watching TV an extremely frustrating experience when you have to get up to FF every commercial, or change the channel and I'd really like to get this fixed.

Thanks!

It's possible that the IR sensor behind the front panel has slipped and isn't lined up well with its window. Cafefully take off the cover and take a look.

If I do find it has slipped, is that something I can re-adjust, or should I put that on the CCS needs to fix list too?

Thanks.
