Will my Tivo HD work with the cablecards even after service has run out?

Thanks

It should not work if service is interrupted for over 30 days IIRC

Whose service? If your Tivo service expires, you'll be able to watch/buffer live TV but that's about it, no recording. Tivo requires Tivo service to be at all functional.

If your cable service runs out -- depends on how much you drop. One could drop digital cable & probably retain local HD + the basic cable channels. But discontinue cable service entirely presumably they roll a truck and disconnect your feed & lose everything. Then you'd have to put up an antenna to get anything.

I meant will my Tivo HD still work with the cable cards if my Tivo service were to expire. I still want to get TNT, ESPN in HD via cable cards.

If TNT and ESPN are broadcast in the clear than you dont need cable cards to view them. Even the QAM tuner in your TV can get them!

However if they are encrypted... not too sure really

That depends on your definition of "work". In general, the answer is NO - you will have very, very limited functionality on any Series 2, Series 3, or TiVo HD without service from TiVo. You won't even be able to record a program.

You'll be able to watch TV. You won't even be able to manually record a show. I don't think you'll even be able to watch shows you previously recorded, but I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure you can watch any recordings already on your tivo w/o service.

I'm 100% sure you can with earlier models, I'm not sure if you can with the TivoHD. My memory is now playing was either missing from the menu or I got a message that said you have to subscribe to use the service when I tried to select that menu option.

I'm not 100% sure, I was on the phone with tivo solving my subscription problem.

Tivo was nice enough to allow a tivo customer from DTV to purchase lifetime but the system had a problem adding me.

Will the cable cards still decode the HD content (TNTHD, ESPNHD and INHD) without tivo service?

Can I watch previously recorded content already on hard drive after service has expired?

Wow. Everyone answered almost every question possible EXCEPT for the one the OP asked.

Wow. Everyone answered almost every question possible EXCEPT for the one the OP asked.

We did, they way we interperted the question. The OP is free to clarify his question if we misunderstood it. He can continue to use his tivoHD to watch tv (including premium channels he subscribes to) but will have little or no tivo functionality.

Do you have anything constructive to add?
