I need help with a multi-room viewing issue.

I have two TiVos set up on the network. I can see them on each Now Playing list.

But when I go to transfer something, I get nothing-it says it's transferring but it's not. When I try to transfer and immediately play the program, this is the error I get:

"The recorder was not able to record this program because there was no video signal on the channel. You may have been trying to record on a channel that you don't receive."

I'm confused because I'm not actually trying to record on a channel. Help!

By the way, I do have transfers allowed. It's a newish Tivo, but still both are S2.

Stupid question, but are you sure the show you are wanting to transfer is actually there? Meaning, have you started to watch it and know it actually recorded (as opposed to it having not recorded anything, like if the cable box turned off and all you really got was an hour of black screen with TURN ON YOUR CABLE BOX). :o

Yeah. It was the only show I wanted recorded tonight while I was transitioning, so I made sure it was recorded on the other machine.

Also, I think this should have gone in the Home Media section, my apologies for that.

Can you try to transfer it using TivoToGo instead? Whether it transfers or not it might give more insight into the issue.

Is TivoToGo the software for computer?

I can't use that-not enough free space on my pathetic computer. :o

Do the transfers work in the opposite direction?

Just a wild guess. Do they both have the same software version ?

If that's the case you don't have to let it finish. Tivo transfers very slow so you could easily stop the transfer long before it finishes. The goal here was to use your computer as another Tivo-compatible box to see if the transfer would even start.

I don't even have enough room for the software. :o

And I'm wondering about this software thing mentioned above. How can that be fixed if they're not the same?

Did you try restarting the Tivos?

You don't have to install anything. You can start the transfer from a web browser.

Both must be at 9.x to use MRV.

You can force a connect to mothership on the Tivo that is out of date from the Settings->Phone & Network menu. Do that a couple times. If the Last status saying Pending Restart, pull the plug and it will update.

Unless your Tivo is brand new, I would think it would already by at 9.x.

If it is not (and you check from the Account & System Info screen), you probably have a problem with your drive preventing it from updating. But lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I would definitely just try rebooting first.

I've seen someone say that they fixed a similar problem by turning off both TiVos* and then powering each back up. (But they claimed that unless both were off at the same time the problem didn't go away). [i.e. rebooting one, then rebooting the other, didn't fix it. Turning off one, then turning off the other, then turning them both on did fix it]

I don't know why that would work, but it couldn't hurt to try.

*[wait until neither is recording; wouldn't want to miss a recording trying to fix this]

When I got my second TiVo I was only able to transfer shows after a couple days, even though the TiVos could see each other and 'enable transfers' was check online. The CSR said this was normal until the 'databases' were updated. (I guess that meant at TiVo and on the actual TiVo.)

No kidding? I never knew that! That might come in handy for both my husband and I.

Oddly enough, after a reboot and a couple of hours, everything worked fine. I haven't tried again today, but I've no idea what happened to facilitate that. :o

This must be what happened.
