There is a thread on here for burning HD content to either HD-DVD format or BluRay format. It would take several DVD discs though.

"Keeping it in HD"
Thats a relative term, at least according to satellite and cable providers. You could keep it in HD but recode it at a lower bit rate in order for it to fit on smaller media.

Fox only broadcasted it in 720p anyway. Not much of lower bit rate to make it fit.

Bitrate doesnt mean resolution. I mean keeping 1080i / 720p but reducing the quality.

As a NY'er I want have a copy of this awesome event. As a Midwesterner *I* want to keep a copy of this awesome event! ;) Best Super Bowl ever I think, but then since the Giants beat the Cowboys (yea!) and then the Packers (boo! but the best team won :o) I was rooting for a NY upset, and was rewarded big-time!
I think it sits at 23+Gb on my S3--dunno myself what I'm gonna do about this monster...

I have a copy on my computer with commercials, half time, and some commentary cut...10.6 GB. Didn't get the ending, though. Ends with 32 seconds left in the game (not like anything exciting happened during that time). :)

How to Create a DVD with TiVo
The following will create a standard DVD with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound that can be played in any DVD player.
Automatically download high-definition recordings to your computer.
http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/tivodesktoptransfer_small.jpg (http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/tivodesktoptransfer.png)
Alternatively, use any web browser (http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/tivoweb.png).
Automatically remove commercials using VideoRedo (http://www.videoredo.com/en/Download.htm?download=tvsuite).
http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/videoredo/videoredo3_small.jpg (http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/videoredo/videoredo3.png)
Red areas are deleted commercials.
Burn commercial-free to DVD with Dolby Digital 5.1.
http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/videoredo/videoredo_dvd_small.jpg (http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/videoredo/videoredo_dvd.png)
Just click the "Create DVD" button in step #2.
Obviously, DVD players will not play high-definition. If you want to store high-definition content on DVD, you'll need a HD-DVD or Blu-ray player.

I kept the commercials in my copy, but when I get video editing figured out a little better, I may edit them out, and split into to files...one with the game, and one with all the commercials.
How do I burn a copy of the superbowl?
Let's gather supplies first. You will need:
1) Copy of the superbowl
2) Source of ignition
3) A sufficient quantity of a suitable accelerant.:D
Do NOT tell the NFL!
Right. Tell the fire department.:D
<serious> Actually, I don't think there's anything wrong with making a copy, so long as it is for personal use, not redistribution or rebroadcast. </serious>
<beavis> Fire...FireFire!! Nyah.hahaha. Fire!</beavis>:D

The one thing cool about VRD TVSuite.
Cut commercials, save the superbowl.
Without closing the file, click *inverse cuts*, save the commercials.
After that, you re-edit the 'commercial' file to save only the commercials you want.
:)
1. Purchase from store/web site
2. Douse in accelerant (gasoline, lighter fluid, etc)
3. light match
4. apply match to copy of superbowl
Congratulations, you have successfully burnt a copy of the superbowl!

Do NOT tell the NFL!
Why not?
It was broadcast over the air. It's legal to record something off air....
Are VCR's, DVR's, DVD Burners, and HD DVD Burners somehow illegal all of a sudden?

Thanks but I was looking for a way to do this on macOn the Mac, you can create standard DVDs from TiVo recordings using Roxio Toast Titanium v8.03.
Unfortunately, there is no quick and easy way to eliminate commercials on a Mac, nor is there an easy way to create HD-DVD and Blu-ray compatible DVDs.
I know that a number of Mac users just run VideoRedo (the program pictured above) using Boot Camp.

Why on earth would you want to remove the commercials from the Super Bowl? ;)
Because 70% of the commercials were lame as hell. This was one year that the game was actually more interesting.

I would really appreciate it if somebody would be able to enlighten me why is the Autotranfer from the Tivo HD to my computer is so slow?
I was just interested in the two final drives by the Patriots and Giants in the last quarter. So my HD file is just 4.3 GB, the right size for a DVD. But the estimated download time is like 2 hours.
My home network is a 100MBPS wired eithernet wired as follow:
DSL ----> Zywall 2 Plus router---->Access Point Belkin N1---->to Tivo HD
The AP Belkin is for wireless laptop and also has a switch for LAN, not being used as a router.
I have my desktop connected to the Zywall 2 + and another switch Netgear Giga 8 to other LAN connections.
Is Tivo using DSL internet connection to transfer? I was hoping for a Tivo Hard Drive transfer to My Computer.
The other question is how would I make the change from HD file to regular DVD. I have Nero 8 Ultra Edition Retail. Whatever program BKDTV referred to I do not recognize it.
Thanks,

I would really appreciate it if somebody would be able to enlighten me why is the Autotranfer from the Tivo HD to my computer is so slow? This question is answered in the TivoHD & Series3 MRV/TTG/TTCB: FAQ + Discussion (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=371710).
Basically, recordings are stored in a non-standard format on the TiVo's hard drive, and "on the fly" processing is required to create a valid MPG file that you can play on your computer. That MPG file is then encrypted. That background processing is what slows the transfer to your computer.
The TiVo Series3 could transfer files to a PC at 12-15Mbps, but the TivoHD is limited to about 8Mbps with the current software. That could improve with a future release of the software. Note you can setup the TiVo Desktop to automatically transfer recordings in the background whenever your computer is on, as seen below:
http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/tivodesktoptransfer_small.jpg (http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/tivodesktoptransfer.png)
Alternatively, you can use a web browser as seen here (http://mysite.verizon.net/~fiosdvr/tivoweb.png).
Transfer between two TiVos is faster because no such format conversion is required.
The other question is how would I make the change from HD file to regular DVD. I have Nero 8 Ultra Edition Retail. Whatever program BKDTV referred to I do not recognize it.That program is called VideoRedo TVSuite. Download a 14-day demo here (http://www.videoredo.com/en/).
TiVo recordings transferred to a PC are MPG files stored in an encrypted TiVo wrapper. VideoRedo and several other applications handle them directly, but Nero does not. I would strongly suggest you try VideoRedo, but another freeware option to remove the encrypted TiVo wrapper (giving you the MPG file that Nero will accept) is TiVo Decoder GUI (http://www.gmonweb.com/portal/CodingFun/Downloads/tabid/54/grm2id/6/Default.aspx).

I would use video redo to take the ads out. and then use video redo to cut it into 8 gig parts to burn to 3 or 4 dl dvd-r hd-dvd with ulead movie maker 6.

@bkdtv,
Just finished reading your sticky. When I came back here, you already answered my question.
I bow to you with great humility and appreciation and thankfulness. I was not familiar with Tivo terms so I did not read the sticky earlier, but that sticky is a wealth of information for a Tivo newbie like me.
As I am typing this, my computer is happily transcoding the Tivo file for the 2 masterpiece Superbowl drives at the end of the 4th quarter for copying into my DVD.
This is intended as a gift for one of the Giants fans in our family.
Thanks for clarifying the slow network speed. I thought for a moment it was my antivirus (which of course does not help the speed) which is the cause. Frankly, with the slow transfer, I do find it tedious to transfer anything but something really really important i.e. our UConn BB games.

Just some info for those who have Nero 8. The Nero Vision app which came with Nero 8 (retail version) will be able to transcode and write the stripped *.Tivo file to a DVD blank.

Anyone able to get chapters working on VRD Suite? I tried making chapters for the Sarah Conner series, and I'm having no luck at all. It will burn, and the video file appears to have chapters there, but it doesn't on the DVD. Any help is appreciated.

I'm sorry, but can anyone answer this:
I have the 24GB HD file on my Macbook. I want to burn a standard-def DVD of the game. I have Toast 8. When I try to use the standard burning procedure, I get a message about 4 discs being required.
Can Toast 8 do any "down-coverting" to get the file to fit nicely on a DVD+R-DL? 8.4GB is the total capacity.
Thanks!

I think most people just leave their computer on at night to complete their transfers. Given the speed, one would not want to sit around waiting for it.It hasn't been mentioned in this thread, but if the TiVo isn't doing anything else, change the current channel to one that's blank (not subscribed to). This little tip just about doubled the speed of my transfers.

anyone?
AFIK, reducing video quality is the only way to get the whole game on a dual-layer DVD. I used VideoReDo in Windoze which automatically calculated the frame-rate and quality to burn an edited (no commercials or halftime) copy of the game and the end-result was extremely disappointing. If Toast has this ability I'm thinking you won't like the results either. Also keep in mind that the DVD will get written as SD - you lose the HD resolution.
The bottom line for me was to split the game (1st half/2nd half) into 2 DL disks at top quality.

so, you only need 2 discs for the HD game? not 4? did you edit the recording beforehand in VideoReDo, or straight from Toast to DVDs?
Thanks for replying!

I thought that Toast *only* does downconverting, doesn't let you save the original quality recording at all.
