View Full Version : How much did you pay for your S3?

According to pricegrabber, shopzilla, and amazon-- S3's are going for just about $600. Yet, an Engadget review (http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/10/23/tivo-hd-vs-series3/)from October says that the street price of a S3 should be about $350.

What am I missing? What did you pay for yours, if you don't mind?

In October I got my S3 for 388.73 at Circus City.

I believe that price was after some $200 off mail-in rebate, as well as an Amazon price drop. I bought mine off of Amazon last summer for $450 after $200 mail-in rebate.

I was an early adopter, so I paid full price minus some BB 12% coupons I had. I can't remember the exact price, but it was high. Maybe around $600.

I got in on the Dell deal in late '06: it was on sale plus I got a 10% off coupon. It was somewhere around $520.

I sold my HR10 on eBay for $500.

Net price was about $20 out-of-pocket. :)

$799.99 on 9/13/06 + $27.85 for 2nd day shipping (a total waste of money on that since I didn't get the TiVo until the 21st, no, TiVo never made it right in any way). But I believe the $799.99 part was worth it to me. Still enjoying the HD.

1st - $799 when it first was released
2nd - $599 from Amazon 4 days BEFORE the rebate was offered. Didn't figure it was worth the trouble canceling service, return to amazon, get a new one, and activating service on it. I figured somewhere in the midst of doing all that something would get messed up on my account. Oh well, atleast I got locked into the $6.95 MSD before TiVo did away with that.

+1, except I picked up in store, so I was enjoying my S3 on the 13th. :) Buying on release day was worth every penny.

Final price was $799.99 - 12% coupon + 5% tax, whatever that works out to.

Now that the S3 is going away, I may snap up another before they're gone completely.

Bought 2 S3's in Dec '07 from COSTCO online. Paid $599 each and $200 MIR for each. Also get their lifetime warranty which is the main reason I bought from them...

Found it at the Hi-Fi Buys going out of business sale last Fall for $189 on the last day the store was open, qualified for the $200 rebate so TiVo paid me $1.55 net after sales tax.

What am I missing?Chris, the best pricing I can find right now is $599 from Amazon/Vann's and the $200 rebate means $399.

Not sure why anyone would buy Tivo's refurb for $465 or whatever, nor anything used/ebay.

I might be paranoid, but I believe the only reason for their ridiculous pricing is to justify the small fortune they 'hold' on your credit card during a warranty replacement.

Just picked up the S3 for $303.00 out the door. So that should make it $103 after rebate!

Circuit City is clearing them out at $279.96.

Not many left in Northern California.

Anyone out there able to find one of these S3 units at Circuit City for a fellow member? I have had no luck finding one here in Ohio. Can't even find an employee that doesn't give me that puppy head **** thing when I say the words "Series 3 TiVo".

$335 AR from Amazon. Still waiting on the rebate although TivoRebate says it's in the system and approved.

okay, not that great of a deal for me if I transfer my S1 to this S3. No rebate for "transfers".

Yeah... i drove 90 minutes to get the 1 CC that had it in stock. now to decide what to do for a subscription.... cheapest route is to get MSD for $9.95/mo and get the rebate.

Early adopter as well on the full $799 price plus the lifetime transfer from S2. I also noticed that when the 1 year grace period was up on the S2 they switched me to the full $12.95 monthly rate instead of what was the $6.95 MSD at the time. Now they'll only give me the $9.95 MSD. I think I'll just cancel the S2 and put a cable box on that TV.

Found one at Circuit City on January 26th (South Florida). It was the last one on the shelf and I decided to take the plundge and use the rebate, making it a $399 unit. However, some smart Firedog guy placed a Firedog sticker on the UPC code. The lady at the register took the sticker off and ruined the UPC. Store manager tried to find a unit in stock all around S FL. to compensate for ruined UPC, but no luck. So, he gave it to me for $279.00 as a last unit, minus $200 since I could not redeem the rebate myself due to non-existant UPC label. So I left with brand new S3 for about $84. It started off with agrevation at Firedog people for ruining a rebate potential, but the rest is history.

One week later I was at another Circuit City where they had a unit out as a demo. It wasn't plugged in or anything, so I asked the salesperson how much I could get it for since no more are in production. The sticker price was $599, but he gave it to me for $230, open box and all. As of today, running perfectly.

I now have two S3s' that I paid less for than originaly planned for one.

Around $850 including lifetime subscription transfer... back when we thought it was really a short term thing.. (I got my TivoHD with lifetime transfer for about $400 less than that.)
