Our DSR6000 appears to be dying- it boots, freezes after a couple minutes and then reboots. Over and over.

I made a quick search of the forum, but didn't see much about how to fix this (I hacked this one a few years ago, and would do it again). I don't have a backup image though.

So here's the advice part-
1) Is a rebooting DSR6000 worth fixing? If it's a simple matter of copying the drive, no problem. Or is this a case of something worse?

2) Should I just get a DirecTV DVR? We could use an HD unit, but it's not critical.

3) Does anyone know any more info about the return of Tivo to DirecTV? When would they be available?

Just looking for opinions. I honestly haven't scoured the forums for answers, but there's A LOT of results when you search for "DSR6000" and "reboots" and it isn't all helpful :)

Thanks,

Jed

1) Could just be a hard drive issue. That is the most common cause of these symptoms. The DSR6000 is a Series1, right? Used Series2 units can be found on ebay as cheap as $30-$40.

2) I'd consider the DTV DVR if you're going to go HD. If you're sticking with SDTV, I'd recommend getting a used Series2 DTivo, or fixing your current box.

3) I'll be as shocked as a turd in a toaster if Tivo and DTV ever get back together (that means no).
