Changes are coming with a press release scheduled to be released on Monday concerning the cast for season five.

The previously web-based Sanctuary starring Amanda Tapping has been picked up by Sci-Fi (http://www.sanctuaryforall.com/weblog/?p=55) for a thirteen episode run, meaning Carter will only appear in a few episodes and a new commander will be named.

Some quotes from Joe Mallozzi's latest blog:
Still, Carter will be one of a number of familiar faces that will be popping up in the Pegasus Galaxy in season 5 - including a new commander. Remember way back, when I said we had considered a handful of possible candidates for the command position at the beginning of season 4? Well this person made that short list then, and we’re VERY excited about his/her/its(?) addition to our cast of regulars. As for who it is and what other little surprises we have in store…head on over to the SciFi site Monday morning and start refreshing.

There's also mention of someone returning as a recurring character.

I don't think Tapping leaving is any surprise--I certainly got the impression from her early post-SG1 interviews that she resented being held to her Stargate contract after SG1 ended, and was expecting her to leave when the contract expired.

I hope whoever "replaces" her brings a little more enthusiasm to the show! Her performance this season has struck me a lot like Richard Dean Anderson's his last couple of seasons--very rote and by-the-numbers.

Maybe they could get Dr. Jackson to be the new leader?

I thought he was going to be staring in the new Stargate: Universe series.

I'm betting it's Nathan Fillion.

(Not really, but it would be a good rumour to start)

I think it should be Eliza Dushku -- in her role as Faith. :D

It's probably someone we know. Maybe we should root for Kari Wurher to reprise her role as Shepard's ex-wife and now civilian leader.

Now that's a rumor I can help spread
I do love watching him work, not so much on DH but certainly with the Joss shows. <waxing into eye candy land> :D

He (actor) has been showing up in the program description since day one,
so I'm tempted to believe you.

How the hell did Teyla get preggers? I could swear I've seen all the episodes and then POOF the's pregnant.
Of all she's my least favorite character. They make her talk the exact same way as Teal'c and it bothers me to no end. Just say one contraction! Once, PLEASE!

Well, they don't show every minute of their lives!

They had to come up with something, since the actress is preggers IRL.

LOL I know that, but its like they didn't even attempt the write it into the story. All of a sudden she's got some boyfriend that she's sleeping with and now she's pregnant. Combine that with an acting range of an apple and it makes for some pretty unbelievable writing.

heck, the BF is now missing...so we've never even seen him...they didn't try to make it someone we'd seen before...very soap opera...

I think I can honestly say I think it's best for Carter to move on. Her role in this season of Atlantis has not been exciting. I don't miss her when she's not there. I honestly get the impression that she's tired (like she's filming Atlantis and the movie side by side and it's wearing her out).

:eek::eek::eek:

I'm stunned! I'm not sure I even like the character. I mean, he's neat in small doses, bouncing off everyone else. But MAN.

I love this part though:

The team, led by Lt. Col. Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett), Teyla (Rachel Luttrell), Ronon (Jason Momoa) and Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite), must adjust to his unique leadership style.

You can say that again. :P

Woolsey might be interesting but how the hell is Beckett coming back?!? Isn't he a crispy critter?

Not loving that. I hope he isn't on any more than Amanda Tapping has been, then his character might be bearable.

Tune in to "Kindred" parts one and two, starting with the one airing Feb 22. Somehow it will all be explained.

I think the addition of Woolsey will be a good one. Carter overlapped some of what Sheppard and McKay bring to the table as a military scientist and she's never fully clicked this season. He'll be a source for conflict based on his command decisions, which I don't expect to always be eye to eye with Sheppard's, and also provide some light moments as he faces life on the front lines on a daily basis.

In his blog today, Mallozzi also mentioned Jewel Staite will be a regular as Keller next season instead of recurring. I haven't been impressed with the character, so I'm curious to see how that goes. Daniel will be visiting Atlantis for at least two episodes and the contracts still have to be inked but Weir's storyline will also be revisited.

I like Woolsey...this is good news...I also love that Jewel is going to be a regular...

I'm glad Sam and Daniel will also come from time to time...the only way all this news would be made better is if Teal'c would visit as well :)

I wasn't expecting Woolsey, more of a military hard liner. But I will take him. I think he can bring a dynamic that will be interesting...the only thing I wonder about him is that his character has always lacked a backbone, so I wonder how that plays into the storyline.

Woolsey is an annoying little man, but him being in charge of Atlantis might actually make it interesting to watch!!
