We are thinking of getting DirecTV service at our house and want to know if I can use my existing TiVo S2DT 80hr unit with their satellite service?

Yes, your Tivo will work with a stand-alone DirecTV Receiver. The Tivo will control the Receiver's channel changes using the infrared "eye" that came with your Tivo. Note that you'll only be able to control one DirecTV Receiver even though your Tivo is "dual tuner". Those "dual tuners" only apply to Cable TV.
