They want me back! Sent a promotional flyer that I can not believe. HD, 29.95, and a bunch of stuff I didn't pay attention to. I'm sure there were some significant loop holes, LOL. Where was this offer when I was deciding to put up a terrestrial antenna? Oh well, I'm saving a ton of money! Also getting a picture and sound that is far improved.

My father, who died about two years ago (April)
Still gets mailers from DirecTV: "We want you back"

I look at it and say... "So do I"...

It it is a low cost way to try to contact former customers, to remind them DirecTV is still there... and offer them a deal to come back...

I remember once when this was a thriving community of enthusiasts where help, advice and commentary was given in a friendly, helpful and respectful manner. Now it seems to be a playground for bullies who need to feed their own egos.

He was only expressing his delight in getting such a great offer so why jump down his throat?

All bullying aside, is the original post even remotely related to Directv receivers with Tivo software?

I fail to see how it's bullying asking why a post was made.

You're right in the fact that there is an increasing number of egomaniacs on this board, but your venom is misdirected.

..and how is YOUR post reflective of a "thriving community of enthusiasts where help, advice and commentary was given in a friendly, helpful and respectful manner" ??????

I think if you read it you'd find that the $29.95 was really the come-on price and had little relation to the actual price you'd pay over the 2 years of your commitment and/or it would be at a service level much lower than you're expecting.

I get about 2 a month. Goes right into the shredder.

It it is a low cost way to try to contact former customers, to remind them DirecTV is still there... and offer them a deal to come back...Actually, it's almost 100% bull****. It's the same "deal" they offer everyone. And it's a lie to begin with -- I'm not sure why they haven't been sued for false advertising. There is no $29.95 package. If you do find the sub-"Total Choice" package (which is not advertised, and will not be volunteered by any CSR... you have to ask for it explicitly), it most certainly does not offer "90 HD channels". (which is the number they're currently sporting.) HD is an additional $9.95 per month. And there's an additional $4.95 on top of that for the rest of those "90 channels". PLUS, if you've read the commitment contract (I have), the minimum service package to meet the contract is $34.95 per month.

It's the "Family Package" which gets you very little: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/packProg/channelChart1.jsp?assetId=1000005

And of course if you want HD with that, there is that additional $9.95/month fee they conveniently ignore, as you mention.

Funny, I actually got another one in the mail today (already shredded, though).

Wow, if you'd look to see how long ago I registered, it was far from being a hit and run.

D*TV absolutely refused to do anything wrt to pricing, I gave them several opportunities, and the CSR arrogance was I didn't have any other choices. The flyer's they are sending me are an easy $20 a month cheaper for 1 yr. Haven't read close enough to see if it requires a two year commitment. I also never called to ask for any freebies, never asked for new equipment, just paid my bill month in and month out. Also never pushed to get the promised broadband monthly rebate, or the rebate for free pay per view. It was a very analytical review of my watching, and related costs. Had DTV cut a deal, I would have never done the analysis, never realized I was paying $60 monthly to essentially get 2 programs for 20 weeks a year. Others may benefit from this knowledge and use it to negotiate. It's also clear that DTV is not doing enough to keep their customers. How is the customer base doing? I know of a lot of people that have left DTV. Most to cable, few to dish, and one (me) to OTA.

And yes, I purchased a Series 3 :)
