I just unfortunately had to cancel my Tivo service since we upgraded to HDTV and have a built in DVR in our new satellite receivers. I'm going to miss the little Tivo guy, we've had him since 2000.

While the rep was trying to get me to stay on and offer me extra months of service he noted that the $6.95 multi-service discount amount no longer exists and also said that after Super Bowl Sunday Tivo will be increasing ALL of their rates and no one would be excluded.

Don't know if it is actually true, or was just a tactic to try to get me not to cancel, but just a heads up to you all.

Super Bowl Sunday and TiVo rates are correlated how?

There have been rumors for some time now that TiVo was going to change their rates after the Super Bowl. Whether it is a new promotion or actual rate changes, no one really knows.

if anything, they should be announcing a price drop! Multiservice discount seemed like an incentive to get multiple Tivos, but at 9.95, I wouldn't at a third!

Don't know. Guessing they figured they'd have people that bought Tivo to watch the game?

Not sure, only posting what he told me. Take it for what it's worth.

for the obvious! they want people to buy tivos in order to record the super bowl just so the shills can rewind and view the wacky commercials after the fact. once the game is over, the prices go up.

The $6.95 MSD rate was increased to $9.95 quite a few months ago. Tivo has had "special" holiday pricing since November which was scheduled to end on 2/3/8, but has been extended until 4/2/8. So after 4/2 which is after super bowl sunday, some rates will be higher than they are now for some people. We know and expect that. Thanks for posting mis-information that you don't have a clue about. The Tivo community really appreciates that.

I hope they simplify their current pricing. I've had a TiVo for 5+ years now and have been a member of this community for a long time. If a friend of mine asked me what it costs per month for a TiVo, I'd have a hard time answering that.

That is not good.

LOL what I was thinking but didn't have the nerve to say so bluntly.

You have to forgive some of the posters.
If they don't have a snack right after getting home from school they can be a little grumpy when mommy lets them use the computer.

I have been paying $6.95 for one of my tivo's for a long time. It has never increased since I started paying for it.

Sorry, I was just assuming that the overwhelming vast majority of TCF members would prefer facts rather than baseless speculation. I apologize to any and all members of the Tivo community who do in fact appreciate uninformed misinformation being posted.
the rest of us really appreciate you putting words in our mouth.

So now you are one person speaking for others. Isn't that exactly what your complaint was?

Well that certainly wasn't necessary. You're supposed to contact the moderators using the "report this post" link and not use a public message to call for them to do something -- if you really want it done, that is. ;)

Why would he tell you about a rate increase to try to get you to stay?????

One is lifetime, the other is 6.95/month. Pretty simple for me.

Well, if the price is going up soon, I guess I made the right choice paying 3 years in advance for $299 (comes to $8.31/month) on the Tivo HD I just bought. Personally, I don't think they should raise their rates. Tivo is already more expensive than renting a cable box (in most situations). Personally, I think they should advertise more. I never see Tivo ads on TV.

and also said that after Super Bowl Sunday Tivo will be increasing ALL of their rates and no one would be excluded. If you're on any kind of contract the rate is part of the contract (e.g., 3 years MSD at $6.95) so those people would be excluded from a rate increase.

Generally, any rate plan changes only affect new activations as well. So even month to month users haven't generally been affected by rate plan changes.

Answer to the question:How much does the Tivo subscription cost is:

Anywhere from $8.31 to $12.95 per month depending on the commitment and payment plan you chose.

Another reason I'm glad I have lifetime on my two Tivos. This only means the lifetime subscriptions will pay for themselves even faster than what I had initially thought.

Wasn't there a $16.95 price point at one time too?

If you're on any kind of contract the rate is part of the contract (e.g., 3 years MSD at $6.95) so those people would be excluded from a rate increase. What happens at the end of the 3 year MSD contract? Do rates go up to the then current MSD rate or are you grandfathered in at $6.95 if you wish to continue service? If you are grandfathered in then can you transfer that grandfathered rate to a new box? Thanks for any clarifications.

This is the main reason why I am glad I have lifetime on all the Tivo's I own.

This is the main reason why I am glad I have lifetime on all the Tivo's I own. Lifetime has it's advantages, but the main disadvantage is that the service is tied to a particular unit, so if that unit breaks or becomes obsolete you can't move service to new hardware as can be easily and quickly done with monthly.

Also, it reduces your service mobility; a lot of folks complain about changes to the service without having the regular customer's ability to communicate that dissatisfaction in a meaningful way by canceling their subscription.

LOL, read that and laughed... so really this means that they can increase it in like 5 years... since that is AFTER super bowl sunday... wait... when does it become "before" Superbowl Sunday? If they waited more than half a year does it change to before?? that is like saying anything after July is before christmas....

Honestly, Tivo has changed to prices in the past, but if you have a tivo now they aren't going to start billing you more.. They aren't cable tv. IF they have a better promo, then you can usually call and get it. I mean who does that? Doesn't change your price if it goes up, but lets you change it if it goes down!

Another reason I love Tivo!! (among the tons of others!)

That was always my problem with Gremlins -- isn't it always technically after midnight? If so, when CAN you feed a Gremlin?
