I'm just starting to watch this, but gawd is it disturbing to be watching a Christmas episode at the end of January!!

The milk scene was a little disconcerting also, but I really appreciate the "prostitute with the mule" scenario's payoff.

The part where House was asking the girl what her Mom's favorite sexual position was seemed like a Chris Hansen moment.

And what's with the Apple product placement? I noticed that both Dell and HP were in the promotional consideration list at the end, yet both a Mac portable (complete with the OSX 'head shake' rejection of a bad logon password) and an iPhone got direct references (with Steve Jobs making it into the script).
Disclaimer: I own both a Powerbook and an iPhone.

I'll concur that watching a Christmas episode over a month after Christmas was rather painful. Mule girl made it worthwhile though.

About 10 minutes into the show, I looked at my wife and said, "this is slow and boring". She said she was thinking the same thing. So we switched to King of Queens repeats.
We've always loved House, but if it continues like this, we'll be dropping the SP soon.

I agree, he couldn't mask his accent in his singing. :)

I loved when House asked Wilson where they were walking to, and Wilson said something like "Nowhere, I just know it hurts you."

I also think that the original is funnier, but in the context of this thread, I posted the newer one because I thought his singing voice sounded better. :)

I was tempted to rewind and watch all her interaction with House, but if I remembered it right, then no. I think she kept leaving it up to him to decide, never saying she was, never saying she wasn't.
The 2nd time when she gave him the invite House new for sure ( if he didn't already ) assuming the invite was to the Christmas pageant. It probably said something about a Crèche with animals.

I must be really conservative or something, but I thought this bordered on child abuse. This kid, actor or not, is still a young kid. Do we really have to submit our kids to being spoken to like that by an adult man? Call me crazy, I would never let my kid act in a scene like that.

I assumed the woman was a prostitute. It was either that or a child.
I think it was a play on Mary Magdalene- the woman was a prostitute and thought it fitting that she be in the play. Would fit in quite well with House's views..

Guys-seriously. You didn't get it? She was never a prostitute. The "Donkey Show" she was involved in was a recreation of the manger scene. The St. Whoever pendant on her necklace wasn't because she was a prostitute-it was because she was religious. The flyer she handed Dr. House was an announcement for the show.

My wife is a social worker who deals with child abuse. She watched this with me. It's not child abuse. Inappropriate yes, but it got House the information he needed to help the mother. You are really conservative or something.

I'd say she's a religious prostitute. Remember when she came back with her neck rash, and he said "clappity clap clap," she said that's the first thing she checked for. If she knows the symptoms for Gonorrhea. (But strangely enough, when I look this up online, the skin rash is a second-stage syphillis symptom, not gonorrhea..)
Most people aren't going to know standard symptoms for venereal disease. Furthermore, one of his clues that she was a prostitute was regular aids tests on her medical history.
So she's a prostitute that happens to participate in her church's activities.

I agree with the gentleman from Massachusetts. I actually just rewatched this episode, but just the scenes with that patient.
Aids test every 3 weeks.
If she was just wearing the medal because she was religious, she wouldn't have worn that one, she would have worn one with a more appropriate patron saint.
"clap on" - "Trust me, it's the first thing I checked. Do you need to look at my labia?"
Definitely a prostitute.

Well in the first place, this is a tv show, not a real doctor trying to get information. A tv show made by adults for adults, exploiting a child. In the second place, if it was a a real doctor, I'm sure he would have found a different way to get the information.
I'm glad your wife doesn't think it was abuse though, I guess she should know. Anyway, it's not the worse thing I've ever seen done to a child actor. But you know, it's not like that scene really "made" the episode anyway. They could have dealt with it differently and still had a very good episode.

This kid, actor or not, is still a young kid.According to IMDB the kid (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1882929/) turned 12 in Aug '07. I don't know that I'd charactorise a 12 year old as a "young kid". A kid yes, a young kid no.
But, yeah it was a bit over the top.

All true, but still can't think of another situation where a 12 year old would be allowed to have (even a scripted) conversation about sexual positions with a man 3 times her age for pay. I'm sure in any other circumstance, if that happened, child protective services would have something to say about it. It's not just this show though, I like this show, it's just how Hollywood treats kids. Then we wonder why they turn out like Brittany Spears.

exactly. Is it inappropriate for a 12 year old girl to play a Prostitute on film? Worked wonders for Jodie Foster. Is that "child abuse"? No. It's acting.

He also couldn't truly be sure he was drawing milk out of the mother - I mean, come on, it came out of her knee. Sure he had a strong hunch, but he could just as easily have been squirting disease-ridden pus into her mouth. THAT was the only real ick factor for me.
The only thing I could think during that scene was "ew, cancer milk." I don't care if it's real milk or not - I definitely wouldn't want it anywhere near my mouth.

No he didn't. That conversation happened when they first came to the hospital. He couldn't believe that her mother told her everything so he kept throwing harder and harder questions at her. He didn't find out they weren't related until later in the episode when the mother wouldn't let her get tested for a bone marrow donor.

They were referring to House shooting the milk into the kid's mouth, and that happened at the end (after House had figured out that the mom and kid weren't biologically related).

And the smile at the end from "Mary" was because she knew that he assumed the worst of her, thinking she was either a prostitute or an "adult entertainer" or such, and all it did was make him look like the thing she was riding on in the end.

Not exactly sure what the reference to "for pay" means in any of this, but as has been covered, it was (a) acting in a TV series and (b) (within the framework of that TV show) pushing the limits to see if there really were no secrets between the mother & daughter.
I take it you haven't seen last season of "The Wire"? This was very tame in comparison.

I don't think drinking breastmilk (legmilk?) from her adopted mother would be any weirder than drinking breastmilk from her birth mother.
Would it be weird for them to share a spoon knowing they're not blood relatives? Yes, I know breastmilk is a gazillion times different than sharing a spoon, but I wouldn't share a spoon with some random friend of my kid's, whereas I would with my biological or adopted child. Heck, some adoptive mothers lactate and breastfeed!
(All that said I think a 12 drinking breastmilk is incredibly weird, and anyone drinking "what is most likely" breastmilk drawn out of the leg of a sick woman is absolutely beyond the pale stomach turning.)

The worst being that she somehow involved animals in her... um... extracurricular activities. Turns out the "Donkey" show was actually a wholesome play and not a twist on her day job.
