With this time of year when most shows start their hiatus, and if the strike would end today, how quick would new shows start to air.

Since it's the writers who are on strike, one would assume, should there be a settlement, they would start writing soon. Then shows would have to be produced, so there would definitely be some lag time. It's not like the techs are on strike, the shows are written and, if the techs resumed work, production could start quickly. Of course, I'm purely speculating, and it would depend on the show.

How long could it take to write an episode of "Smallville?"

Somewhat kidding of course, but I'm sure there'd be an accelerated timetable to get things done.

If I was a writer, I'd have a couple episodes already written ready to go.

Once the strike is over, and the producers are hounding me to get something written, I'd suggest a bonus if I can complete one double time, then voila! instant cash.

I think I've heard that for most series, even if they had scripts in hand and ready to go the minute the strike ends, it would still take a month or more for the shows to start back up. A lot of Hollywood workers were either laid off or let go altogether by studios, claiming "force majeure," which just adds to the complexity.

How long could it take, doesn't everyone complain about the drivel on television nowadays? Drivel can't take more than a couple of hours to write.

what I don't get is why they don't show shows that got canceled this season before all eps were played...maybe something will stick after a second chance and it gives people new stuff to try...

Remember, we're headed into a Sweeps month. They need to keep some original stuff back so they can charge the advertisers more money and pretend that everything's ok.

Expect more reality and game shows - and anything else that can be produced quickly and without a script over the next month!

They have done it in some cases. IE Big Shots has been running off episodes for the last 3 weeks ro so.

I doubt the show is going to be renewed, although it is going to be weird, because there is going to be a problem with getting NEW shows ready for the fall, so shows that are already established but were going to be canceled might be renewed, if and when the strike ends.

And then when (choose one: one of the staffers who struggled to make ends meet because the strike prevented him/her from making money; another writer for the show who didn't break WGA rules by writing during the strike - the WGA policy is "pencils down means pencils down") calls in the writer to WGA out of spite, what happens?
