Well, here we are again. So far, nothing outstandingly good or ridiculously bad - basically, nothing out of the ordinary.
Jason was lucky Simon was in a good mood. He had a good voice, but couldn't remember the words! A previous year and he's have been gone.
There was a red-headed guy who sang a Stevie Wonder song they snuck in. Had a good voice and, I predict he could make the top 24 or maybe even top 12!

Yeah, I thought the first guy was pretty rough.
But I did really like the last guy of the night, though. And I thought it was great when Simon asked Paula if she wanted to take him home...as a pet! :D

couple of good singers. The nora jones gal was really good. And the bartender that watched Chris Daughtry's tapes was also really good. Best two I've seen so far.

Fake how? Seemed like it was a silly bit they just made up on the spot to me... probably to try and cure their boredom.
This episode was at least a little better than last week's. I liked the "human interest" story about the Wisconsin girl and her father. :o
I was disappointed how Simon and Randy tore the gold jacket dude to pieces after his performance. I didn't think he was that bad, singing-wise. Yeah, no way he should have gone to Hollywood, but he wasn't awful.
The Norah Jones impersonator bugged me. It also bugged me that the judges didn't complain about her doing an impersonation rather than singing.

The best part of tonight's show was the 10 second clip of Bright Eye's "Four Winds" they played at the beginning.

I really dug the Norah Jones sound-a-like. She was cute too!

It seemed more like a way to get her out of the room for a couple of minutes to sober up. She was falling asleep at the table and barely coherent. Her alcoholism is really affecting the show.

I admit, she was rather loopy at the beginning, but she had supposedly just gotten off a plane from wherever. It's possible she just needed a moment to refresh herself after a long and possibly crappy flight to the middle of nowhere.

I'm pretty sure they could have come up with a better way to do that. Like take a break for a while, as I'm sure they do all the time. FWIW, she doesn't seem drunk to me, more like loopy from Ambien or something. But she does seem a bit out of it.

That's entirely possible... I know several people right here on the TiVo boards take prescription anti-anxiety medication before taking a flight... it's possible Paula does the same, and getting right off the plane and going to the audition would've meant that some of the effects from the medication would still be evident.

Anyway. I like having a nicer Simon, but I think at times this season he's been a little TOO nice. I liked that he was really nice with the guy at the beginning who kept forgetting the lyrics... but there have been several times where I think he was a little too nice, and the contestant could've used a little firmer criticism.
I can't wait for the endless reports about the Racine, WI girl on the local news. The local FOX affiliate loves doing FOX and Idol tie-in reports. (They have absolutely no comprehension of a division between the news and entertainment divisions.)

I'm an M.D. (on the innarnets), and I believe she was drunk or stoned.
I really enjoyed the last guy. The girl with the mean dad had a boring, tired old story. She sounded like crap too.

For some reason I had to chuckle when Paula let out that massive hiccup and Simon says "you disgusting little pig".

Yeah, she went sooooo far out of the room that she heard the audition. And it was all of a few minutes. Yup, they got her out of the way.
Conspiracy much?
And, actually, if you have been paying attention, Paula has been cleared eyed and coherent this year.

I know more than a few people that take xanax before flights, some take more than 1 pill if it will be a long flight with delays or layovers. With Paulas flights delayed she probably had to dose again.
Alos, if that knucklehead in the gold jacket had come in and just sung, it may have gone his way. He sounded OK right at the beginning then he went crazy.

It got more than a chuckle from me. I was full-on laughing, and even rewinded to look at Simons response again, because he rolled his eyes and dropped the paper he was reading before saying "you disgusting little pig". Great!

The only thing I think happens is her medications for her RSD probably make her somewhat loopy.

What? That whole episode she was loopy. As someone said, there was one scene where she appeared to be asleep. Then there was another where she bent over the front of the table and Simon said "Paula, what are you doing?".
For the record, I actually liked that scene, though.

I wonder what will fly everywhere when his local Fox affiliate dismisses him as a nutcase?
Then again, AI will probably bring him back in a "red carpet" role for the finale - with all the other returning nutjobs.

No, but you do to actually diagnose "alcoholism."
To tell when someone is drunk, you need to know that they actually had alcohol to drink.

I think it would have been interesting to call the dad and tell him that she didn't make it, then see what he said...then tell him that she did really make it, and see how he backpedaled! :p
Just my 2 cents...of course I had a terribly narcissistic father. :( I did love how her little (I am guessing) cousin covered his mouth in mock horror when the dad said "bada$$!" Too cute!

If it staggers like a duck, slurs like a duck, and falls down like a duck, it's a drunk duck. :)

You're just not correct. Sorry. Nothing personal, but you have no idea what you are talking about.
