I activated a standard receiver. No dvr. Does that extend the contract?

I think it extends the contract by one year (DVRs are two years), but it's best to check to be sure.

Careful..... the act of calling DTV to check if activating a receiver extends your contract, automatically extends your contract by 1 year :D

I got a cold call one day out of the blue from D* about free coupons for PPVs. By allowing them to extend my contract one year, they would send me 12 coupons to be used in the first 6 months and another 12 in the second 6 months.

I don't know what I was thinking, but i figured that i wasn't going anywhere or cancelling anytime soon and agreed. I got all the coupons and haven't even bothered using a single one. You had to buy the PPV and after you get charged on your bill you have to mail it in to get a refund. It was only for the $3.99 PPVs with no special events or Playboy or anything like that.

Seemed like too much trouble or I just hadn't found anything i wanted to really watch.

Rob :)

Also, ANY type of HD receiver activation (even non-DVR HD box) also extends it to 2 years as well.

It doesn't "extend"... it replaces.

It's not like you now have a 3 year commitment.

Your commitment will not exceed 2 years, from the time of activation of your last receiver.

So if you had less then 1 year on your commitment, yes you pushed it out further... but not by 1 year.

Sorry, I should have said "to 2 years" - I changed it. I had meant to say it the way you did, just mistyped...

A few years back I called Verizon to see when my cell contract was up. The nice lady told me I had another year. (my wife had arranged the cell phones so I was unaware if it was one year or two years) So another year goes by and I call Verizon and ask the nice man if my contract was up. He said "oh yes, your contract expired a year ago." I switched to Sprint.
