I don't know if thats the correct term for it or not, but here is the situation.

I live in Oklahoma City and have Cox extended cable. Cox recently turned HBO into an all digital channel. Since I have dont have digital cable, Cox placed a converter box somewhere in my neighborhood that converts the digital HBO signal to analog.
HBO used to be channel 2, but is now shown on 18. 18 was a public access channel. However, when I go to the TV Guide channel or TVGuide.com, they show 18 as the public access channel, and no HBO anywhere.
This makes me think that on the Tivo, 18 will show up as public access and not HBO.

If this is true, can I tell Tivo that 18 is HBO and get the correct listings? I really want to get a Tivo HD since I work evenings now and don't want to miss my favorite shows. I have never used Tivo and so I don't know how the software works on it.

see what www.zap2it.com says - that is the guide data that TiVo ends up using.

And no you can not manually map channels. You cna tell TiVo of a channel lineup problem though

Just like I thought, 18 shows up as Educational Access (it lists things like whats for lunch at the local schools).

So can I tell Tivo that 18 should show HBO listings and have it corrected? Because the programming is HBO, the guide is ED Access. I just want to clarify since I am going to pick up a Tivo HD in an hour.

Thanks for the quick reply though.

Since you are getting a TiVo HD, it will directly tune the digital version of HBO on the correct digital channel, or at least should.

He didn't say he was getting cable cards or digital cable.

I picked up the Tivo HD last night, set it up (didn't activate it right away, but did today). So far, I like it. I hope I can get that HBO issue fixed, but its okay if it takes a while since I really dont record much off of HBO.

Unfortunately, I have plain cable, not digital, so I won't be seeing that digital HBO channel until I do (I am getting 70 or so channels for $20 a month through some deal from a friend, it doesn't apply to digital which would cost another $50 a month, I don't watch TV enough to justify the cost).

I still get some local channels in HD using an antenna, so that helps.

I will eventually get digital cable, when I feel comfortable paying $75 or so a month for cable :)

Thanks for all the help, I hope to be a more active member of this community from now on :)
