Has anyone successfully purchased an HD Tivo from somewhere other than TiVo itself, and successfully transferred with the $199 Lifetime transfer? How do they verify the purchase date, which is becoming an issue since this offer expires on Sunday.
I can get the Tivo and the Tivo branded network adapter from Amazon for $60 less.

I bought 2 TiVo HDs from Amazon before they extended the deadline. Activated 1 immediately without any problems. Will probably activate the other prior to SUN so that there aren't any questions about date of purchase (and potentially place of purchase).

I transferred in early January for $199. Purchased at BB. Just a little advice: The transfer will take 60-90 days to show on your TivoHD according to CSR. Your TivoHD will say "account in good standing" until then.

The rules seem to imply that you have to buy it from Tivo, but that isn't true.
I guess they can verify the system because you haven't ever activated it, and it is still before the deadline. You could have theoretically bought it six months ago and never activated it, but I guess they don't care about that.
I think you might run into a problem if you bought it from someone other than Tivo right before the deadline, but activated it after the deadline.

Deadline's almost here!

(After clicking on the Full Terms & Conditions link, perhaps the de-facto transfer deadline is March 8 for HDTiVo's bought by Feb. 3.)

Just bought a TiVoHD today (2/2/08) at COSTCO for $149.99 ($179.99 - $30 instant rebate). CSR transfered lifetime w/o question as to when or where I purchased it.

Now I don't feel so bad, just having paid $254 from Amazon.

I am planning on getting a TIVO HD through the Tivo rewards credit card. Will I be able to transfer my current Lifetime to the new HD for $199?

I believe that the $199 Lifetime Transfer expired on 2/3.
