How many people have a Comcast Tivo? There doesn't seem to be very many.

I agree not me, and no one seems to ever add here.

remember, this has been out officially for almost 3 weeks, these installs as of right now require a truck roll, so people are not going to all have it at once. And comcast isnt really advertising this as of yet. Mostly its for the harcore tivo fans as a way to attract new DVR customers that wouldnt otherwise leave thier Tivo. And yes, I have it.

Thanks. I was very confused what the Comcast tech was even doing there. He didn't actually do anything except bring me a remote. The software is downloaded automatically. He didn't even know how to use it. Why can't they just do these upgrades automatically?

give it time young grasshopper :)
This is brand new to both TiVo and Comcast and it is in its infancy stage. Nothing like this has ever been done before where someone ports their software onto another manufactores DVR hardware, and then activate the modem in that hardware and send the software via a push onto the box.
It is going to take time for things to work themselves out. I predict that 3-6 months from now, installs will be like clockwork. I'm sure thats what they are waiting for before they go nation wide.
Also like Eric said, comcast isn't even really advertising the service yet. Wait until there is print, radio, and TV ads. Things will pick up exponentially here on TCF when that happens.
Also I want to give Eric a special thank you for contributing to these forums. It is fantasic that a comcast tech is here and so plugged in. Thank you!
Eric can you change the "registered user" under your name to say "Comcast Tech"?

I agree, they're doing truck rolls to work out the kinks and to make sure the hard core people like the ones visiting TCF and AVS forum now don't overly b**ch about the install. The fact that your install could really have been done without the tech means they are getting more familiar with the hardware quirks.

ill just quote my response from a differnt thread
The truck roll is necessary, because the tivo software essentially turns the box into a fully functional DOCSIS enabled modem and must be within certain parameters for transmit and receive signal levels to properly function. If these levels are not met, it could cause the download to essentally "brick" the box rendering your DVR useless until a truck can be rolled to swap it and reconfigure your splitters, etc. to get the signal where it needs to be.

Thanks. I guess Comcast must be getting good because the install was easy. The tech literally did nothing. I guess it is good that he didn't have to.

Well, check out my thread here about my experience having a clueless comcast tech for the truck roll. He didn't check anything with signal strength, which led to one problem, as well as not checking that the box had one parameter enabled which would allow it to use the Tivo software once properly downloaded (that may not be exactly the correct description, but that was the overall effect).

I was talking to my tech and he had no idea how to use the software. It was his first install. I showed him how to setup the remote.......
I am glad it went smoothly because I don't think he could have done anything if it didn't.
