I'm trying to copy some home videos, as well as some ripped dvds, from my PC to my TiVo HD. Most DVDs work fine, but some are missing audio. My home videos also are missing the audio. I've investigated, and it seems to be due to the audio streams in my home movies, and certain DVDs, being uncompressed PCM... It seems that the TiVo HD doesn't like uncompressed PCM audio.
First off, is my analysis correct?
Second, what are the solutions?
If I upgrade to TiVo Desktop PLUS, will that fix the problem? Will TiVo Desktop PLUS automatically reencode the audio to a format that TiVo HD likes?
I have a lot of home videos sitting on my hard drive, and I greatly prefer to not have to reencode them... I want them ready to burn to DVD, which I believe means either AC3 or PCM... Thus, MPEG-1 audio is not desired. If I do have to reencode them, is there any free way to reencode to AC3?
Thanks in advance!
