I normally don't ask questions that have probably been answered before, but since my hours of searching these forums (and others) have turned up what I can only classify as old info, I'm going to ask them again:

1) I have an old SAT-T60 that just had yet another drive crap out on it. I found an old 80 gig Maxtor drive to throw in it, so I did just that using an InstantCake CD that I had for it which now leaves it at an un-hacked version 3.5. I do not have this Tivo hooked up to a phone line and I also don't have the turbonet card plugged into my LAN yet. My question is - will it get the latest 6.3f update on it's own, or am I going to need to make a call with it first?

2) I have Philips DSR7000/17 in the other room. Everything about it at this point is stock. It's running 6.2 software. I got it from a friend a while back, and I'm wondering why it doesn't yet have the latest version of the software on it. I've had it hooked up for months now. The only thing I can think of is, I haven't made a call with it and it says the last call was back in May. I don't think the modem works, and when I try to read messages, the entire box freezes up on me making me unplug it. I'm assuming there are a ton of messages and that somehow locks it up. How can I force it to also download the latest version?

2b) Again with the DSR7000, how much harder is it to hack a Series 2 so that I can use Tytools with it like I did with my SAT-T60 before it had a drive error? I just ordered a USB network adapter for it from 9thtee...

In the end I will have both tivos hooked up to my LAN - I just want to be able to yank shows off for use on my ipod like I did before. Thanks.

Your sony box won't upgrade to 6.3f, 3.5c is the latest rev for Series 1 boxes. The reason neither of them have updated any further on their own is the lack of a phone connection. You can initiate an upgrade on a hacked box manually if you want. Hacking a Series 2 is well documented at this point, I'd recommend to keep it at 6.2x for MRV, though 6.3x has better stock driver support, so it would depend on your situation. The easiest way is the zipper script here, or it can be done manually with a little more effort.
