My cable company recently swich to digital signal and prevents me from using the dual tuner on my series 2. Here is why: Tivo is like this to get cable

Cable from wall > Tivo
Cable from wall > box >Tivo

My cable company know makes it impossible to get a cable signal from the wall directly to the tivo, so I cant use the channels like 2 cbl it know has to be 2 box.

Is there any way I can buy something or go thru my cable box first in order to be able to get the "cbl" channels because you cannot record to "box" channels at once?

You are kind of screwed. You could rig a 2nd cable box to feed in as cbl ch 3, but it'd be a pain to control, have to shield from other cable box + set up all recordings manually, which kind of defeats the point of a Tivo.

Time to upgrade to TivoHD, or cable company DVR. Good excuse for you to get HDTV anyway.

are you sure all chanels are digital? You might find the 3 big networks and some others like PBS can still be had analog

Yeah, to expound upon what ZeoTivo said, you may want to plug the coax directly into the Tivo and see what channels you get. You may be able to get all that you care to get without the box.

If you *really* want/need to record the digital stations and have more than 1 tuner, you could get a Series 3 or TivoHD, which take cablecards, which replaces the box.
