R10 Reset - reactivate???

OK, I had an R10 that I thought I was going to sell and did a full reset/clear. Now my wife wants to keep it and use in another bedroom. So I called D* and had them re-activate the receiver, but it says I need to go throught the initial setup to make the first call. In the past I was using serial ppp for the call homes, can this be used for the initial call or does it have to be a phone line....I can do the ppp just have to set things back up, but if I must have a phone line then I will have to lug it somewhere..thanks....

WRONG!! PPP over serial works for all setup calls as well as the regular TiVo side call. No hacking needed either.

Yes I can confirm I got it working with serial PPP, the main problem was that when D* turned it back on they didn't mirror my dvr service to it so it wasn't working.....
