Unfortunately for me, my Tivo has been having problems for about a week stuttering off and on watching SD channels and made HD channels pretty much unwatchable. I decided to clear and delete everything. However, it's been stuck in the "Clearing and deleting everything." screen for about two days. I've read the other threads regarding this issue and it looks like I have a faulty drive. Now my question is this...

If I replace the drive will I need to reprogram the cablecards or is that data stored on the machine and not the drive?

Thanks.

The answer is: it depends. In some cable franchises like mine you're fine, and in other areas you're not. To get an answer, you'll have to find someone in your area.

Note I recommend giving your location in your user profile here at the forum, so people might be able to help you more easily.

Thanks CripsyCritter.

Btw, I live in San Diego, CA and go through Cox Communications.

You could backup your drive to a new bare drive using MFSLive. That should preserve cable card settings.

When you booted the new drive it would probably still be "screwed up" and stuck in the C&DE. But you could then do a KS 52 to get it going again. YMMV. :)

I haven't had much luck with backing up drives, installing fresh drives, etc. So I figured I'd save myself the hassle and just order one from weakness or something. I just want to make sure if that's the route I take I don't have to get the cablecards reinstalled by Cox. Last time they wouldn't let me do it myself.

That is a risk you are going to have to take if you use a drop-in replacement drive. If your cards are paired (not all are), you will most definitely require assistance from Cox.

Now you got to ask yourself which is the bigger hassel? :p

Don't call it a reinstallation, tell them they were working, but now you get a screen saying you need to call your cable provider with new pairing info. The distinction was enough to get me rolling with Comcast..
