i've heard that CV has released M cards somewhere on their system. anyone heard anything about this? on the heels of their recent price increases, nothing would make me feel better than to swap out my 4 Scards for a pair of Mcards. then again, maybe they still charge for 4 cards, as they'll just say you're getting 4 tuner capablity so we'll still charge you for 4 tuners, so the price stays the same. i'm sure there are people paying for one M card, and saving the extra dough on other systems, and would like to know if they'll be coming to Long Island soon. i just got my 2nd tivoHD a couple of weeks ago, and they said no M cards at this time.

It is true - they cover "Power key" areas with M-Cards. The issue is no one I know who is in the "Power key" areas, including myself, had much luck getting a hold of an M-Card. CV will be more than happy to charge you for 2 cards instead of one, no questions asked.

I live in Northern NJ, Hudson County, and I just called Cablevision for my cablecard install. She offered me the M-Card! Said they just got it in...

Hmmm, I'm going to have to check if I can switch to one M-Card. I don't think Bayonne is a PowerKey area but I'll try to find out.

So are they going to 1) mandate another truck roll and 2) if so, will they charge me AGAIN another 48 dollar truck roll fee to swap out my existing ones?

I mean if I'm going to get charged yet ANOTHER install fee, eff that, I'll keep my four single stream (I have 2 tivos) cards.

Just called 15 minutes ago for cable cards. i was told they do not have the MCards. But perhaps she was not upto date. i will call back again. I got anoyed when they told me about the install fee. They should not be allowed to charge me for something i should be allowed to do myself. On top ot that they had to try and sell me their phone service.

Pete, please post back here or a new thread with the news if you got M cards. are you in the powerkey area, or do they have NDS cards with the smart card like LI?

I called Wednesday to set up an install and asked about M-cards. The woman said they will be rolling them out shortly, but didn't yet have them in my area. I asked her to define shortly, and she said within the next few weeks. I asked if I would get charged to swap my 2 S-cards (coming next Tuesday) for the m-card, and she said that I would not. I call Monday to make sure they don't have them before my install.

Sweet, I called Cablevision the other day too. The woman told the monthly fee is $2.00 for the M-Card. Had my TiVo since 2001, I was doing some research, I'm trying to convince the old lady to let me buy the new TiVo HD box.

tell her that you'll be saving the difference between your M card fee, and a box/remote charge of around 6.25/month. 12 months X $4 savings= $48 plus tax per year. one reason to switch to the new tivo NOW!

Just spoke Cablevision and was told that the M-card rollout began on January 7 and there is no date set for LI yet, but that it usually takes about two months when they roll out something new for all systems to have it. He also said there would be no service charge to change when the M card is available on LI.

The installers put in S-cards, when I asked, they looked at me like I was speaking alien.

We use the NDS smartcard

I live in North Jersey, Bergen County, and they do have M-cards available. You have to specfically ask for S-cards now or they will bring the M cards.
