View Full Version : THD - No menu sounds

Ok, I searched for my specific problem but couldn't find a previous thread.

I just switched from component to HDMI (from monoprice). The cable is connected directly from the THD to my tv (sony bravia kdl46W3000). When I boot my THD I have all menu sounds, all sounds for that matter and everything works normally.

If I then listen to music streamed from my PC using tivo desktop, exit from the streaming music back to the menus, I lose all my menu sounds. I also lose some sounds while viewing live tv. That is, if I use the channel up/down button, no sound, but the sounds for the individual numeric buttons work, the ding of the guide button works, and the tivo button sound works.

Just to clarify, the movie/tv audio always works fine, only the tivo sounds stop working, but only after streaming audio from the PC. Switching inputs from DVR to TV (cable) and back does not fix it. I also tried going to the settings and turning sound off, then back to medium.

I guess i can live without the sounds if need be, but I actually prefer them on.

TIA

There's about a billion threads with the same two words in the subject as yours. A simple search for 'menu sounds' would have turned them up. In the last week I can recall at least three seperate new threads where people asked the same question and got the same answer.

Does the same with my S3/KDL-46W3000...sounds usually only during menu...

All the sounds came through HDMI when connected to my Westy 3213...I only changed the TV.

I do get all the sounds with my S2/Video1 input.

I just live with it.

Yes, there are, but they all dealt with audio going thru a receiver and/or processing dolby digital, not a direct connection to the tv.

Like I said, it works fine as long as I don't stream any music from my PC after rebooting. When I used component cables it also worked fine, regardless of streaming music from my PC.

Your Tivo is either sending a Dolby Digital bitstream or PCM audio to your TV.

Bizzy, I think I'm just ignorant regarding this. Does dolby/PCM make a difference when connected directly to a TV? I don't have my CC's yet so I've only got analog channels. I also tried switching to PCM in the audio settings and had the same effect, lost sounds.

It just seems odd that all sound will work fine after a reboot for hours on end, and only stop after streaming music.

DeathRider, my situation is opposite, sort of. I lose sound within the menus and the only tivo sounds I get during live tv are the info button, numeric buttons, and the tivo button. Basically, I lose the channel up/down button sounds.

I had the same issues on Tivo HD connected via HDMI. I didn't try component - my Tivo is up for the replacement. I do not have any receivers b/w Tivo and the TV.
It's one of teh numerous bugs in the software.

OK,

I get no sounds whatsoever while watching live TV, only the TiVo button while it switches to the menu.

I get no sounds from The TiVoCast opening screen either.

I never did reboot the S3 when I witched TVs though. In a way I'm growing used to not having the sounds;)
