Just purchased a Series 3 Tivo and I have Cox Cable cards installed. My problem occurs when switching between HD channels and digital/analog channels (and the Tivo menu) and vice versa. It doesn't occur every time, but often. What will happen is the screen on my Sony HDTV will go black, but I can still hear the audio in the background. I have to turn the power off on my Sony to regain video. The Tivo is connected via an HDMI cable. After calling Tivo, they diagnosed the problem as not enough signal strength from Cox. Apparently the signal strength has to be b/w 95 & 100 and it was dipping to 93.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks

Sounds like you struck out at CSR Roulette. The audio and video are muxed, and a signal problem would prevent you from getting both. It sounds like you've got an HDMI handshaking issue. Try connecting your Tivo to your TV with component video cables and see if the problem goes away.

So, according to you, this doesn't seem to be an issue with regards to my Tivo or with Cox, correct? But, rather the issue lies with the communication between my Sony TV and the Tivo via the HDMI cable, with the HDMI input/output/cable being the main culprit, correct? If so, is there anything that can be done to keep the HDMI connection rather than go to component? eg. better HDMI cable, routing the HDMI connection through my receiver, etc...?
Thanks again for your help

You could try switching from Native to one of the fixed output resolution options to see if that helps.

I started with 720p Hybrid, and now am on Native (which the first Tivo CSR recommended to me) and am having the same problem with both. Currently, Cox is attempting to boost the signal and I will try the component video and will keep y'all up to date. The strange thing is that I did not have this problem with my Cox Motorola HD box. Hopefully, it's not something that I will have to "live with" b/c it's really annoying and I'm concerned the constant powering on/off will affect my TV.
Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

jhardie, 3 things you might try:
(1) If you have a different HDMI cable, you might try it. I had trouble getting video from my receiver to my TV, and it was a bad cable.
(2) You could also try hooking up the current HDMI cable to a different HDMI input of your TV. I know it sounds weird, but someone else here reported that this helped him.
(3) As a last resort, you could try hooking up component video cables and a separate set of audio cables to your Sony TV. If it works, that might point to some kind of handshaking issue with the HDMI between your Tivo and the TV.
Good luck.
