View Full Version : Transfer Shows from Series 2 to Series 2 DT w/o USB Adapter

I'd like to transfer some shows recorded on my old Series 2 Tivo to my new Series 2 DT without buying a wired or wireless USB adapter for the old Tivo. I'm looking for a way to do this, for instance, by:

1) removing the hard drive from the old Tivo;
2) somehow transferring the Tivo files to my computer's hard drive (XP SP2, no Linux); then,
3) using Tivo Desktop software to transfer the files from the computer to the new Tivo via ethernet port/home network.

Since I've never worked with Linux, I don't know how to do step 2 (from a software perspective) and I don't know whether step 3 is doable with the Tivo Desktop software (which I've never used). I don't want to incapacitate my old Tivo--so I know not to boot into XP with the Tivo hard drive on an EIDE cable.

If there's another approach, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance for your help.

The only acceptable way on this forum is by MRV or TTG over then network, or by copying the analog video out of the one DVR to the other or a capture device on your computer. Any other way is considered extraction, and forbidden discussion here.

If you just want to have the old recordings available to watch, you can view them off the old TiVo.

Thanks, classicsat. And sorry--I didn't realize my question might lead to a forbidden answer.

This is probably your best bet if you're not able to have both TiVos on the network at the same time (otherwise you'd just use MRV to copy the shows from old TiVo to new).

So hook up the old TiVo and use TiVo Desktop to download all the shows to your PC. Then connect the new TiVo to the network and use TiVo Desktop to send all those videos to the new box (you can use the free TiVo Desktop to do this, you won't need to buy the Plus option).
