Tivo looses signal...just a black screen?

My girlfriends Tivo is a Humax Series 2. Every week or 2 it will just stop recording. The Tivo menus work but the "live TV" is black. The "recording history" says the shows were not recorded because of lack of video signal.

Rebooting the Tivo fixes the problem. Everything works for another week or three until it goes black again.

I might add that the Tivo has been connected in the same spot to the same Comcast box for over a year before this started happening. The other Tivo in the house works fine.

Is this a faulty Tivo box? Dying hard drive? Weak cable signal? Something else?

I think the TiVo is not controlling the cable box.

If it's loose, tighten it before you lose it.

The Tivo is controlling the cable box, as in it is changing the channels properly. It just randomly stops receiving a signal from the cable box.

As I said in my original post rebooting the Tivo fixes the problem, but what is the problem?

This is happening to me too and only since that last service update some months back.

This started happening to us about a month or so ago. Only on our Humax Series 2, our Tivo Series 2 works just fine.

Since I made the original post the Tivo has quit recording two more times. With no fix in sight I guess it is time to dump Tivo.
