This seams so simple but I would like to burn a DVD of some of the shows (not copywrited) that I have transfered to my desktop PC via Tivo Desktop and be able to play them in my DVD player in the living room. What software do I need or do you seggest?

My personal favorite: VideoReDo TVSuite (http://www.videoredo.com/en/ProductTVS.htm).

There are a myriad of free alternatives as well ...

Most any recent version of DVD authoring software will work, including the ones that come with Windows Vista Home Premium or better, however I'm also a big fan of VideoReDo Suite. Well worth the money.

If you happen to have Nero oem(possibly provided w/dvd burner), there's a good chance Nero Vision Express(3?) was included. It will also do the job.

+1

And one of the lead folks over at VideoRedo is a frequent user here in the forum. Dan203. He is always very helpful if you have any questions.

Did you use Video ReDo Suite to both edit AND burn? Note that with some DVD burning app's, notably Roxio, are not compatible with AC-3 audio that is output by VideoReDo and other software app's (including Roxio itself) after editing.

I used VideoRedo to edit and burn the DVD. I burned another DVD last night and tried to play it on my DVD player (Pioneer DV-563 and a Samsung HD-931) and still did not get any audio. When I played the DVD in the computer DVD player I had audio and worked just fine. Got any ideas?? Is there a setting I need to change?

The issue could be with the dvd players and not the software. DVD's that I burn play on only 2 of 3 dvd players in my house.

What kind of disk did you use to burn your programs? User programmable DVDs are just kinda' sorta' like "real" DVDs - they use an entirely different technology and somewhat different format than commercial DVDs. Some DVD players are totally unable to recognize user burned DVDs, others are "picky" about them and skip, lose audio, or don't work with certain types of media.

If you used an 'RW' disk, try an 'R' disk.
If you used a DL (8.5GB) disk, try using single layer disks (4.7GB).
If you used an SL 'R' disk, try a different high quality disk (I recommend staying away from "house brand" media - they often switch vendors and you may get very different results from lot to lot).

DVD drives that are designed specifically to work with user burned disks will usually not have a problem which is why it plays correctly on your computer.

I'm using Memorex DVD+R SL disks. I going to try the disk in another player this weekend. Thanks for all the input!

I'm using Memorex DVD+R SL disks.

Try using a DVD-R disk.

Older DVD players don't like +R.:)

ETA: Verbatum is my brand of choice.

Can anyone mention any free ones?

I hate to buy another software for the occasional DVD burn.

Thanks
