View Full Version : Incorrect audio for PBS channel -- I think it's for blind people?

We have a Series 2 TiVo and use Comcast cable. I have a cable splitter, with one end going to the TiVo and the other directly to the TV.
For one and ONLY ONE channel (a PBS channel), the audio that goes to the TiVo is wrong, and not the same as the audio that goes to the TV. Half the time it sounds like it's a community radio station, and the other half of the time it's an audio track that seems to be for blind people. The TiVo seems to be getting a different audio track for only that station, while the TV is getting the right one.
Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? If this was happening with more channels I would assume it was a wiring problem on my end, but it's only happening with one.

Contact both Comcast and the PBS station.
Someone has the SAP channel going to the main channel.
SAP, Secondary Audio Program is used for both second language(usually Spanish) and what I call Closed Captioning for the Blind, but it's really called Descriptive Video for the Visually Impaired.
I believe it is the fault of Comcast or the PBS station because you don't notice a problem on any other channel.
If you had SAP turned on at your TV, you'd hear spanish a lot.

But wouldn't everyone in that cable system be getting the blind narration, then? Seems like that would last about a day.
And he's not getting it on the TV direct.
Check Messages & Settings/Settings/Audio/Television Audio and make sure "Main Audio Program" is selected.

What RoyK said.
I know a lot of receivers will default to the main program audio when they are set to SAP and there is no SAP being received on the tuned channel. I don't know if Tivo's are this way, but it would explain the problem.
We had that problem here in Atlanta once. The local Fox affiliate turned on their new SAP channel for weather information, and they were flooded with calls from people who were "getting weather all the time" instead of the correct program audio.

The only people in Broomfield that watch PBS are blind perhaps?
